TV Amp/Reciever Recommendation for a 5.1–7.1 System

Just a little update for you guys – finally got a perfect matching Solution

I got my hands on a used Denon X3700h, a miniDSP 10x10 HD and a SIARE Delta A8 power amp. The plan is to dive deeper into speaker design and just have some fun building and experimenting. Payed 600€ for the Denon and around €700 for the 8 channels with DSP and 80 watts per channel seemed like the perfect fit for me – flexible, powerful, and still budget-friendly.

With this setup, I should be able to test and tweak everything I want without constantly needing new crossover components – super convenient.

Really curious to see where this journey takes me!

DIY speaker openness: I want to design and build my own speakers—active or passive—so I’m open to suggestions on both fronts.
Most AVRs don't have preamp outputs so passive speakers are standard. Except for the subwoofer. I don't know of any AVRs that have a power amplifier channel for the sub.

For DIY, I always recommend starting with speaker design software before you even buy anything. WinISD is FREE. You can plug-in the Thiel-Small parameters for the woofer and it will help you optimize sealed or ported cabinet designs and model the performance. WinISD is only for the woofer (and sub of course). There is other more advanced software that can help with integrating the other drivers & designing the crossover but the woofer and it's enclosure are the most important.

The Denon 3700H has enough pre-out channels, so I’ll run those into a miniDSP 10x10 HD for crossover management and routing, and then into a SIARE Delta A8 power amp. It’s a super flexible setup and should give me full control without having to mess around with passive crossovers for every iteration.

Planning to do something similar like this:

Really love the clean white look of the drivers. The front panel will be fully 3D printed in one piece, which should be a fun challenge.

At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by VituixCAD, but I started playing around with WinISD and I’m getting the hang of it. Parts are already on the way, so things should start moving soon. Might create a separate post once I’ve got some progress to share.
