Trying to remove bottom panel from turntable.

Bought an Akai AP Q55, supposedly serviced, with the sketchiest power cord. Flimsy compared to the RCA/ground wire and has a Frankenstein replacement male plug with electrical tape as a strain relief. I have a cord to replace it but I'm stuck at the last step of removal of the bottom panel. I've removed the dozen screws around the edges, now there's four more in the center right under where the motor would be. AI says I should be able to lift the panel off now, and the corners are free to lift but I'm 99% certain those four screws are firmly attached to the four corners of the motor housing and it's not going anywhere. Included are two poorly Xeroxed service manual images with the panel on and the panel off. It sure looks like if I removed those four screws the panel should just lift away leaving the motor intact.
