Trying to get Roon to recognise my headphones and I am failing miserably!

Hi.. My first post…so go easy on me.

I have a Roon Ready bridge…Stack Audio Link II plus a SMSL D6s DAC connected by USB. My headphones are AKG K702 …The headphone amplifier is a Project Headbox S that is connected to to the D6s by RCA cables. The rest of the equipment is a Topping PA5 II Plus power amp and Neat speakers ( I am in the UK).

Everything works… I get music from headphones and speakers…All really good but I cannot seem to create a zone for my headphones….I know Roon does not fully recognise the SMSL DAC and maybe I am wasting my time…I am happy with the DAC but open to changing the HPA.

Any advice…either to create a zone on Roon for the headphones or leave well enough alone or change something be it DAC or HPA.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I cannot ‘identify this device’ as SMSL are not on the Roon list.

I was thinking of the SMSL RAW MDA1 DAC and HPA and read ASR review but was discouraged by the members comments about its glitches and pitfalls… but open to persuasion that might be a solution.

I have the SMSL Raw MDA1 connected to a Mac, and it looks the same in Roon as yours. I am unsure what you are trying to acomplish by "identifying" the device? That will only get you some artwork for it, but change nothing relevant AFAIK.

RoonReady is overrated. You can live without it.

I am trying to create a separate zone for my headphones.

Roon doesn't know anything about headphones (other than EQ for a few). It does care about each DAC. Every one is automatically a "zone" you can play to. As long as you have more than one DAC, each is available for independent or together playback.
