In the later years every year I Google best heavy metal etc albums of xxxx year. It seems to me that the new stuff is [insert genre] + core . Which to me is just not it. It fukin sucks ass.

My newest find is Ghost, I have really played to death their latest albums.

I find myself going back to Slayer, Judas Priest, Pantera, Immortal, Kiss, etc the old classics

Anyone else in the same spot as me, did you find anything you reckon is good? Cheers

Tool, obviously.
Unless you want to argue what is or isn't metal, I have been playing Oakhead, Kozmotron, Bruteus (see "what are you playing at the moment" thread) and Brutus (sic)

I avoid all the bands that have vocals that sound like the singer has tried to cure his hoarse voice by gulping down sulphuric acid and bleach. These bands are ubiquitous and all sound the same to me...

Basically, YouTube algorithm recommends obscure releases if you clicked like on those kinds of videos. Encyclopaedia Metallum here has a nice list. Sorting by newest date, Drudkh for example sounds good to me.

I really like the new albums out this year from Alter Bridge and Black Label Society. You might also check out Dark Chapel's first album.

Long thread already.

Chevelle is one of my favourite bands. Later albums are perhaps more progressive metal, earlier are simpler.

I also like Chaos Divine, especially Avalon.

What's your timezone and language? I know a legit radio show where they also do new albums.

Going a bit back in time you might enjoy digging into Entombed and Boltthrower.

Yes, I can relate completely. Metal bands only interest me if there's something that really stands out, because so many are basically identical. Especially those with cookie monster vocals

A few samples of metal bands I still listen to:

Converge - dark horse
Meshuggah - future breed machine
Chat pile - why

Long thread already.

Yeah but vocalist in Queensrüche did have a ponytail, and he looked bad ass. Or is it a dig at the millennial ponytail?

Edit;
I'm checking out the tips guys, thanks.

My time zone is Norway my guy
