troubleshooting - new AVR Noisy when changing volume

I just picked up a Marantz 7012 and I get a very noticeable digital noise out of the speakers when turning the volume up/down. Can't seem to find anything on google (keywords volume/noise/speakers keeps sending me to noisy pots discussions lol)

doesn't seem better/worse regardless of settings/inputs. does not happen on headphones. happens with different speakers

any ideas? im going to try a full reset and see if that helps
