I was talking with my Mom earlier, it's her birthday today, and we mentioned Maria. And we talked a bit about those small islands getting beat up pretty bad...Mom went to some of those small paradise islands years ago.

And I didn't know that there were worst hurricane years in the past.

I'd say something more about Dominica, but there really hasn't been much communication with them since Maria passed through.

Next target, which was called last Saturday by the Weather Service, is Puerto Rico.

Them being an Island adds a bit of difficulty to the Electric Utility Crews who might otherwise just drive down there to help out.

The Red Cross is calling for more volunteers, both for out-of-state assignments, and more local support since so many volunteers have been dispatched to these major disasters that local Red Cross offices don't have enough folk to cover local disasters like house fires and such. I was trained as a mass shelter volunteer, but Work (mainly) and Life took over so I have not done it the past couple of years. I learned why so many volunteers are retired or working jobs that allow much more free time than I have. If you have the time, consider volunteering, or at least getting some training, even if only CPR and First Aide.
