"Half the Everglades has been drained or paved for agriculture and development, so in the rainy season, water managers have to dump excess water into estuaries and what’s left of the Everglades."

Maybe we should build a pipeline to the Land of Fruits & Nuts (aka California). They're already sucking the lifeblood from the liquid bounty in the north trying to farm a desert. We have plenty and would sell to them at a reasonable cost, with only a minimal amount of our seniors depends runoff included.:D
CA is an oasis! ;)

There are line crews from all over the US (and Canada) in Florida.

One video showed an emergency vehicle from LosAngeles in the Keys.

I'm trying to imagine how all their efforts are coordinated.

"Where's this wire go?"

An estimate was 280,000 man-hours for restoration for TECO.

Working 16 hours a day, with a 7 day estimate, that's 2500 people.

TECO isn't as big a player like FPL or Duke.

I lost power from about 8pm to 11am. Left the mrefrigerator doors closed. Measured -9F and +45F in there when the power came back.

Bummer for the folks that are still out. And still some big percentages below:

Say someone packs his freezers with meat, for $5,000 worth, just in case there is a shortage of food, plus his family are big meat eaters; if they lose power for two weeks a generator would be best.

Question: Do many people have to boil water, for the ones with water access?

* I just boiled three pots of water here; there is a warning.

** Canadians always like to help their brothers and sisters south of the border.
It's in us, a natural instinct Canadians have towards others in need.

I know you guys like graphs: http://heavy.com/news/2017/09/tropical-storm-hurricane-maria-gfs-euro-model-latest-update/

Check all those predictions, from all over, USA and Europe models, and ten days ahead; Maria can go anywhere, from Miami to the middle of the Atlantic.
And Maria might interact with Jose.

"Interestingly, the Euro model also shows Maria interacting with Hurricane Jose, who is supposed to be heading out to sea (you can see this in graphics three and four)."

The Euro predictions, see how easy it is to predict the trajectories of hurricanes. ...From right in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico to the center of the Atlantic.
Between you have Barbuda, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Haiti, Florida and the East coast of the USA.
2017 is not even over yet and it's a real bad year for heat, forest fires, flooding, hurricanes, winds, nuclear tension, ethnic cleansing, political disasters, world corruption, insecurity, climate changes, car changes...from gas to electric, chemical factories, audio designers, audio technologies, video technologies, film industry, 3D, ...you name it...think of anything and it's on that list of worst fears and events.

Why do you think I always say that we live on a beautiful blue planet surrounded by beautiful blue people...because I remain positive/optimist and because it's true if you go to the right places with the right people (the rich and famous sailing the seven seas...millionaires and billionaires from all life's venues).
If you are poor or living on the edge of disasters, you'll end up poorer and more sinister. Some people profit of other's distress. It is easier to steal from the poor.
It is easier to enslave the poor and the persecuted. It is easier to rule over poor population. It is an unfair world with a sordid affair we live on.
And I'm sure man has nothing to do with it, it's the fault of nature, human nature and climate change. There is nothing we can do, but serve and follow our destiny.
Or is it... What can poor people do that rich/powerful people won't do for anyone but themselves. ...In vast general...the way of life and death.
Can 7.5 billion people get to 15 billion in two hundred years.

UN has a 300 year estimate ranging from 2.3 to 36.4 billion...

The big numbers come from the "less developed" regions.

The scary part of that is how small the yearly difference between growth rates are. All the estimates for them are less than current rates, and within about a half percent of each other.

They're hosed.

Ray, it's almost like predicting the behavior of an audio cable after 500 hours of usage, or who's going to be the next president, or where the next hurricane will land, or how many guns there will be in the whole world by the year 3000.

Science of the universe is @ its infancy, faith is in the hands of the planets' behavior interacting with each other in various systems of a complex mechanism/metabolism of world's existence...life and death...born, reborn, extinction.

This is a bad year, 2017, on many levels. 2016 wasn't that great but it wasn't as bad as this year with still three and half months to go. I'm talking power shortages here, caused by natural disasters; hurricanes, winds, flooding, fires, heat.

We're only in the middle of the season, for hurricanes.
