Trinnov Altitude

In their last webinar Trinnov said they were overwhelmed with orders and behind in shipping systems to customers. I suspect a review sample is down on the list, though they may have some available for demos.

That‘s unfortunately the case, Trinnov just confirmed today that they are out of stock for a demo unit to be reviewed at ASR due to COVID19 supply chain issues and the need to service customers first - which I get. Nevertheless they confirmed that they will supply either an Alt16 or Alt32 once the availability improves.

It should also have the new HDMI board, though a "don't care" for me. They said those would be available to upgrade current units but not until December, maybe (probably) into next year. "Too many orders", there are worse problems to have!

I'm still waiting for Harman to implement the update they said would be available in August. And dealing with network issues; apparently they can't "see" it behind my range extender though it is not giving me any errors when I check from my end. Networks are my bane (one of them). I am not looking forward to pulling it out and hauling it up to my office (two floors up) to direct connect to my router, then have to haul it down and hook it all back up again. Last weekend I finally installed it into my console, nice and neat, and back pretty much inaccessible so it will be quite a chore. Blah.

BTW, I also have a RME ADI-2 Pro FS. If someone can explain to me step by step how to use it to measure the Altitude, I am happy to try.

I too don't understand this craze for HDMI 2.1 capability on processors (understandable for TVs) - If the only purpose of the new HDMI board is for 2.1 capability, then it's either for 4K120 HDR gaming or 8K content. Gaming is a mixed bag because sending it through any processor intermediary introduces latency due to sound processing and lip-sync adjustments - for gaming I would always use the TV as a switch and send audio back out to the processor via eARC on HDMI 2.0b (currently available on the Altitude right?) for the best game latency. And as for 8K via HDMI, unless you are using a PC with 8K output capability (on the latest NVIDIA/AMD GPUs) there's no other 8K source content via HDMI available currently.

Oh wow, looks like a review is coming! I wonder if there is a difference between the 16 and 32 besides potential channel count. The 32 uses a better processor I believe.
Intel i7 vs i3 but mostly because it can handle over 32 channels vs 16, so I don’t believe that alone would raise the measurements. Individual choice of components like the DAC chip or CPU is not as important as proper circuit design in reducing noise.
