I use an Apple TV 4K instead. I do not trust TV apps version of audio via eARC from my TV. I was trying out Tidal Atmos music with eARC and got a loud POP in my rt surround. Immediately decided not to blow up a speaker to hear atmos music which always seems to need extra volume to properly hear it.
The lower channel count, the less chance there is an equipment rack.
To each their own. It would have to be reasonably priced, $5K or under, and support HMDI 2.1 VRR... So, I am in no danger

I am still struggling with which to choose. I plan to mix a combination of active and passive speakers. It is probably irrelevant and not audible but the digital out seems to be the purest signal path.
What I have seen, HT installations are differing in lot of aspects, once you get past 5.1 realm.
I will tell my example - I have 8 “stupid” subs - passive in custom made enclisures to allow for Waveforming placement [shallow boxes with assymetrical woofer placement] , with D Class amps in a rack. I use Trinnov as DSP..limiter etc for subs. Cost efficient, optimizes placement and gets me WF benefits.
I still have 16 digital channels out if I would want to.
I looked at it and honestly don't know enough about this. Is there only one AES3 output on the 9401A? I was thinking of my 8Cs as L/R with a Genelec center channel.

That makes more sense. I was looking at the rear panel and wondering how it would work. I have two Dutch and Dutch 8cs I am trying to incorporate into a home theater but can't buy another speaker for the center due to the design because there is no way I can make it work on top of the cabinet standing vertically. Thought about using a Genelec for the center with full range surrounds from Goldenear. I may just be trying to fit a square peg into a round hole with these speakers but am happy with how they sound and don't really want to buy more speakers for L/R.
I do not see the value in re-engineering my well-designed passive loudspeakers. If I ever replace them, I would probably choose active speakers but that's not planned.
