Hello everyone. With the new setup I'm about to purchase here in the next couple of weeks, I'm having to buy a couple of trigger cables. I've never had a setup where I could use trigger cables. I think this is going to be really cool.

Probably a super simple answer, but what would be my best bet for trigger cables, anything off of Amazon that works?

Any 3.5 mono cable of sufficient length will do.

I wonder what the general consensus is for having a trigger cable turn on the subwoofer. I have mine set up right now when it gets a little bit of a signal that turns on. Is there a advantage to the trigger?

Compared to the usual auto standby with signal sense, 12V trigger is more robust.

For example, a common complaint with signal sense is that the sub won't wake up if the audio signal isn't loud enough, so people end up having to blast the volume for a few seconds to wake up the sub, then turn it down again for regular listening.

12V trigger won't have such an issue.

I went with smart power strips instead plus some of my amps don't have typical 12v trigger wiring.

Once your system is fully trigger cable enabled it is really hard to do otherwise.

Looks like I bought Kable Direkt trigger wires on Amazon for a few bucks. No complaints. Amazon Basics probably has one that's equally competent.

I got hooked fast on the logic of turning my amp on via trigger. The slight delay in outputting the 12V gives the components time to settle before powering up the amp. No more big thumps & loud pops from powering up everything together using a (smart or dumb) power strip.
Then i got a bigger amp that didn't have a trigger input. Sadz.
This I solved with an external trigger power relay.

My McIntosh preamp uses 3.5mm TRS and uses the ring to control downstream dial illumination. A 3.5 TS cable shorts the ring to ground which might be OK but I’m not sure. Using a TRS cable snd plugging into a TS jack at a non MAC amp may or may not also short the ring to ground. I make TRS to TS adaptors that leave the ring open. So most of the time any 3.5mm TRS or TS cable will work but not always. Read your manuals.

P.S. I has 3 trigger outs, 2 of which are programmable. Very handy.
