Trigger cable: DIN to 3.5mm

I want to connect a trigger cable between a Meridian 501.2 preamp and a pair of Audiolab 8300mb mono power amplifiers, so that the power amps switch off whenever I switch off the Meridian.

The Meridian accepts a DIN type connector. The Audiolabs use a 3.5mm connector.

Can I simply use any old DIN to 3.5mm cable between the preamp and one of the power amps, then use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable between the two mono amps? The Audiolab manual seems to suggest that this will work.

On a related subject, the mono amps are supposed to go into automatic standby after 20 minutes of no signal, but only one of them does, which is rather irritating. Any ideas as to why this might be the case?

I'm pretty sure you'll never get something useful out of the DIN socket, its only used for digital comms to other Meridian products.

The rs232 port however could give you something. If you have a smart rs232 controller with 12v output, this could sit between your Meridian and power amp.
