At 78, I wanted some new bookshelf speakers and looked at all the usual suspects from Elac to Polk. I bought a pair of KEF 350's a few years ago we now use for TV watching with a Schiit Dac into a Yamaha 202 receiver which has helped with dialog clarity some.
I just bought a pair of Triangle Comete EZs from Adorama at a good price. I had used some Triangles over 20 years ago, but sold the Titus I had, but kept the matching center channel. I may do some 5.1 at some point. I have done over the years a lot of location recording of instrumentalists so I have a great idea of what real instruments sound like in a real space. I have about 15 mics i my mic cabinet and generally doe 2496 masters for everything I record. I record with a tascam DR-680 MK2, which is a 6 track recorder that can do 2496 for 6 tracks and 24192 for stereo. I use a pair of Focusrite ISA Ones for mic p;es.
The Comete EZ are excellent for the money. Very heavy, deep, well damped cabinets. The sound stage is stable with greatly defined instrument positions with excellent 3D. I am very impressed. I watched the review at Erin's Audio Corner of the most expensive Comete's, but did now want to spend close to $2K for bookshelf speakers. They have gotten great reviews. I am very pleased with this purchase and might buy a pair of Titus for the rears if I go 5.1 at some point. Recommended.
