Topping Reliability

They just stop working and you have to turn them off and on again. They don't play music and do not react to any input via the joystick. I pull the barrel plug in the back or unplug the 5V PSU that is powering them, plug it in again and then it's good for another couple of months.

I think that's a different issue. The D70 has an internal PSU. Can you try flipping the switch at the back next to the C14 socket or simply pull the power plug. Wait at least 10 seconds then try to start again.

I've unplugged everything, and let it sit on my desk for several minutes, but it still only flicker on(can see the topping logo briefly) for half a second and then turns off for approx. 2 second and do this over and over, non-stop.

I can press the volume knob, and then it shows the DFU-text with firmware version. But that's the only response I get.
So it looks like I successfully upgraded the firmware from 1.05 to 1.08, but when turning it on the only thing it does is flicker the topping logo.

Seems like it's rebooting or something.

This appears to be a fault in the unit. If you powered OFF and then ON that should have reset the unit. If you disconnected the input and the output then that is all you can do. It appears that you will have to send the unit to Topping for service.

That sucks... I just shelved my old Schiit Aasgard 3 for the A70/D70pro combo. And the Aasgard 3 also had some DAC/USB/driver issues on Windows, but at least it could be turned on.

Thanks anyway.

After sales support- definitely a concern
Returning a product for warranty claim- pain in the neck, on your own expense
Overall resolution time, if successful- too long

Topping recomends buying from local agent. We are lucky in Aus as the local reseller provides proper support and you wont have the issues you described.

The problem comes up if you dont have a local reseller and buy online from an overseas based seller.
