Topping PA5 Review (Amplifier)

This device was on the table too. But it's barely available in Germany (only over Soundimports.eu afaik), has slightly worse performance, no balanced outputs and I can't use it for input (measurement mics) too. It was a tight race but the MoTu ended up as the winner.
Which MoTu interface? Don't you think you will need and DSP?

Nice tho a bit pricy. Real 8 chenels with ES9026PRO DAC but balanced only I/O. Whose searching for something similar but with both balanced/unbalanced I/O for wider integration especially with subwoofer's.
Oh you can just use an adapter and sacrifice the symmetry and a little SINAD. Cool thing is, with Equalizer APO you have unlimited possibilities for routing and audio processing since your PC power is the limiting factor. For example, you can use 4 of the 10 outputs for a stereo setup with two subwoofers while applying independent impulse response files.

It's actually insane of how precisely you can optimize your audio system with REW, E-APO and a measurement mic. All free software.

@anphex didn't really worked for me (EQ APO), had compatibility issues and didn't like it so I went with JRiver instead which also have his glitches. Glad it work's for you hopefully someone will pick up with development as its DOA for more than 5 years now.

The discontinuance of the Topping PA5 now appears to be official. The English language website for Topping Audio no longer shows the PA5 on their 'Power Amplifier' page.

The PA5 has been discontinued, but the new PA7/PA7 Plus has been released.
Topping has learned a lot from its failures with the PA5, and the PA7/PA7 Plus shows improvements everywhere.
Although the model number is different, it can be said that it is an evolved model of PA5.

Power for a chip amp looks reasonable;

I hope its buyers have also learned a lot from the pa5

Probably Topping has learned last spring. Vast majority of failed amps were manufactured before spring/summer 2022, I guess.

@Topping please stop it with that 10 % THD. It's useless, a dick move to push numbers and just confuses people. You devices are capable as is, no need for weird tricks.

I don't know how far my PA5 will hold... No problem so far and sufficient power output. On the other hand, I found that it is VERY sensitive to static electricity (it jumped once when touching, it happened once).

For awareness Topping (John Yang) explanation of PA5 fault

I'd not seen this before. Confirmation of a design decision that can (and has) caused failure due to overheating in overcrowded sealed modules. i.e. all PA5's are at some risk. Not clear if this was ever fixed in later PA5's but my reading of this limited text is - that it has not been fixed.

My repaired unit is still working beautifully, for now...

Oh makes sense. I have a vented unit (those small openings at the back?).
Also I am placing a metal XLR routing switch on top of it as a free makeshift heatsink.

Here is a post from the PA7+ post. They just added a small heatsink to the module.

This picture is not from PA7/7+, its PA5 (before and after) with a different cooling done.

That is what I intended to convey.

Why not remove that protective casing and allow better cooling of the element underneath?
