GP,

How much are they? I have a rev 1 PA5 that’s not getting much use and haven’t decided whether to fool with this or not.

(I’m in the US.)

Cheers

My PA5 just lost a channel and I’d be interested in purchasing a module. Assuming you can ship to uk?

I am pleased to report another successful PA5 repair. The old module was a pain to remove, but I just worked it out with a manual solder sucking syringe. I also cut the pins down to allow better access. I find if you can rock the pins slightly in their holes you know they are desoldered. Takes patience. I agree that adding some leaded solder seems to lower the solder melting point.

Many thanks gamerpaddy for making this repair possible!

Basic question - how do you get inside the Topping PA5 without doing any damage?

2 screws on the bottom, 2 on the back.
get some pliers and wrap the tip in cloth or plastic and pull out the volume knob (its just pressed onto a shaft, dont worry breaking it. dont bend, just pull)
then remove a nut behind it.
push the volume shaft and it should pop out on the back.

pull 3 plastic retainers on the bottom to remove the plastic isolation sheet below.

Thanks very much. The amplifier is working again with the new module - an excellent result! We suspected the volume control knob pulled off, but didn't like to exert too much force without being sure! Installed the headers so any future replacement would be a lot easier. There's also a picture with instructions that might help people here - https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...25x-is-a-modification-worth-it.380233/page-19 (well down the page)

Do you have any modules still for sale? I have two PA5’s, so interested in buying two modules.

Count me in for two if any are left or you make a new batch. Would also take bare PCBs.

Just wanted to say again - thank you @gamerpaddy for an utterly brilliant service.

My PA5 is still hanging on after it's repair by Topping (and sounding fantastic) but it's great to know you are out there.

Kudos

Are those Topping amps more reliable these days?

The PA5 was a bad design - encapsulated components that overheated. That mistake hasn't been repeated.
I haven't noticed complaints about subsequent Topping Amps, they seem good now - as good as anything else in the price range.
No evidence either way, but don't judge Topping by the PA5.

right now i only have two modules left, but a new batch is in the making. will let you know when they arrive.
Hi, my PA5 unit has started to making some noises from left ch. I'd like to buy a working module from you. Thanks!:)

Dear Gamerpaddy,
do you have any gerber file including assembly to order directly form JLPCB and not to mess with soldering - the DIP version.
I'm sitting in Budapest Hungary....

ive posted a guide on how to order pre-assembled pcbs on jlcpcb on page 2
just open the other design in the editor at the exporting step
