I assume 70W means something like 40W@8R. I'd like to see a Topping amp with 250W@4R so I can finally replace my Bryston.

What is the amplifier chip in it?
I think the amplifier part is the same as PA3s. Therefore, the amplifier chip uses dual Infineon MA12070.

Well the pa3 measures 35 at rated THD. looks like it can do in excess of 50 at 1%

I was disappointed that all my expectations were wrong. I don't need it!

3 months ago this thing would be perfect for me... if it had analog out.
Like this, isn't it great functionality with too little power?

Basic tone controls are at least a step in the right direction.

Almost the same as the Loxjie A30 ($ 160-180).
Main difference I see from the specs is that Topping MX5 has SE+balanced inputs and a much more powerful headphone amplifier (260mW@300Ohm vs ~4mW@300Ohm), while on the other hand Loxjie A30 has a subwoofer output.
Loudspeaker power amplifier output and performance of both looks similar to me.

So perhaps the two units target slightly different use cases (focus on 2.1 systems with A30 vs focus on headphone listening with MX5?).
