TOPPING MX3s

How can you estimate that when you haven't measured anything.
I have ears? I could crank the MX3s to the max and could not with the Loxjie without it getting too loud.

That said Im a dumbass and just discovered the High Gain setting on the MX3s. But its too late in the night to test how high the MX3s can go. Furthermore I dont know if the Loxjie actually sound good when turning up so loud. Could not test that.

It just means that the volume pot is realized in different ways on each of the amplifiers, maybe there is a linear pot on one and an exponential pot on the other and then it will not give similar power at a similar position.
Without a device to measure the maximum power, you cannot tell which amplifier is more powerful by simply listening.

Ah I see what you mean. That could be the case but doesn't the Loxjie also advertise with more power?

I also found a bug. If you disable Bluetooth (cause I don't need it) the mx3s won't go in Auto Standby after turning off the computer. Was really wondering what's going on there.

.... also advertise with more power?
An advertisement is an advertisement, only the measurement is authoritative.

Btw is there any negative to activating high gain? I dont really know why the option exists in the first place. o_O

So no harm done if I keep it activated? :)
Can't think of any. But you can try out both settings, see if you can hear any difference. I use high gain on the LA90 and noticed none at all, so I just left it there.
Haven't tried on MX3s yet.

So I took the plunge and got a Mission 778X since there was an offer (550€ new) on ebay. And yes the 778X does produce a sound that I like a bit more. At first I was ready to ship the MX3S back but in the end i kept it and will send the Mission back.

Albeit the Mission producing a more warm and fuller sound, its not by much. I had to do some extensiv A/B testing to find the differences and thats why I´m keeping the MX3s. The 778X is better but not over 300€ better. Its really amazing how far those little Class-D Amps have come. Size was another factor. Whilst the Mission has very small footprint it is still humongous compared to the MX3s. The Mission also had problems on its own:

- For whatever reason, the sub was quieter on the PreAmp of the Mission versus the Sub-Out from the Topping.
- The Mission takes 20(!) Minutes to go into standby after USB Signal is lost. The MX3s takes 1. The Mission also doesn´t wake up when the signal comes back. The MX3S does.
- In operation there a was an audible humming sound coming from the 778X. Sometimes quieter, sometimes louder. Could be the PSU. Input or Volume had no influence. When it was waiting to go into standby after I switched off the PC, the noise from it was very loud and distracting even 3m away. It got a bit better but all in all the Auto-Standby is useless on the Mission.
- Firmware Update seems wonky. The file is only 20kb and doesnt seem to work. Contacted support for clarity.
- some controls like the Yamaha A S-301 would have been nice.

The Mission 778X is back in the package and awaiting return. :)

How would this compare to Aiyima A07 connected to a SMSL SU-1, I have this comb for office nearfield at work and i'm very happy with it. Now I'm assembling a second system at home no need for headphone or Bluetooth and was wondering if it would be justifiable the price differences between Aiyima A07 (88€) plus SMSL SU-1 (80€) so a total of 168€ and the likes of MX3s 239€ , SMSL A300 220€ and Loxjie A30 183€.

Note: After writing and analyzing prices I think I'll buy another A07, SU-1 combo

Come on people. Someone step up and send one of these to Amir for testing! You can ship it from Amazon directly to Amir and if it doesn't test well, he can just drop it off for a return. Cooooome on now!

Maybe I’ll send him mine to test. Does he just ship back? How do I reach out?

Thanks. I’m going to send it on over for testing. Now just need to find something to drive my speakers in the meantime lol.
Of course he ships it back! Awesome. It will be nice to see how this thing tests. What were you using before you bought the MX3s? I have two amps before I bought the Aiyima 08 Pro: A Douk no sub out amp using the TPA3116D2 chip and the old Aiyima with a sub out using x2 TPA3116D2 chips. I figure I'll keep them for back ups.

Subjective review

I bought an MX3s to replace the NAD 712 hooked to my desktop computer. (One channel is borked; I will get it repaired later.)

Notes from day one:

* The tiny binding posts are a pain, but not an every-day pain. If you're using bare wire ends, trim carefully.
* The whole thing is ridiculously small and light-weight compared to the NAD -- and they have about the same power output.
* The front-panel headphone jack is 1/8", not 1/4" -- which is fine, because all but one of my headphones comes with 1/8" plugs.
* Drives Paradigm Monitor 3v3s (2002, 2 way bookshelf with an 8" and an early? waveguide around the 1" tweeters) all the way to "much too loud".
* Minimal controls without the remote, but it's all the necessary ones: volume, input select, headphone/speaker/both select.

I think I like it.
