TOPPING MX3s

Anyone knows if the Auto on/off feature switches source if a new signal is detected ? of manual switch is still necessary ?

Use case : switching music source from PC (USB) to phone (BT) seamlessy.

I think it is manual switching of inputs. Sometimes these things are semi-auto when dealing with RCA/3.5mm inputs and Bluetooth.

The MX3S looks perfect for my setup I'm slowly assembling....can anyone confirm that the sub out volume is controlled? I'd like to feed an active sub, but control volume solely through the Topping remote.
Also, any feedback on whether the sub out is full range, or has a low pass filter? If filtered, is that changeable in the options?

From what I can tell now having owned it for a week or so:
The sub output does vary with the volume control. There is no level adjustment specifically for the sub on the unit, just bass/treble.
Pretty sure the output is full range. There are no options for low pass filters OR high pass filters. I just use the LPF on my sub.

Man, the upcoming RSL ia255.1 looks like a good contender too... but no headphone amp:

I used an OG MX3 in a 2.1 setup. The subwoofer output of my MX3 remained active when I plugged headphones into the headphone jack. Can one disable the output of the subwoofer jack of the MX3s when using the headphone jack ?

On this model, you can select the output to be Speakers, Headphones or Speakers + Headphones with the MODE button on the remote. When the Headphones mode is selected, no sound comes out of the speakers or subwoofers. Just confirmed.

Your need to cycle through the output options by double pressing the main button and select the headphone icon for headphones only.

I am a fan of the clean implementation of iFi's Truebass on the ZenDAC. Can anyone that has that unit and experience with this one comment on how the tonal adjustments compare? The MX3s has significantly better features than ZenDAC, but there's just some kinda magic in that Truebass button lol. Cheers!

Do you know the differences between MX3S and MX5 and loxjie A30 ? Which one is better ?
For my own uses.... I noted the MX5 cost more, and had no subwoofer/line output.. Different size/form factor, too. The Loxjie looked just as good as what I assume the MX3S will be, but the reliability issues I noted in online reviews made me wary...and thinking I'll spend the $30 more for the MX3S. (Things like USB audio or optical input stopped working after a few months, unit dead after a year or 2, etc)

MX3S, MX5 and Loxjie A30 (links to manufacturers' pages) all use the same MA12070 amplifier chip and claim similar performance and output power. They all have external power bricks.
The three amplifiers use different DAC chips: the Loxjie has the ESS ES9023; the MX3S uses the AK4377 (but is limited in functionality by passing through the QCC3040 controller); the MX5 uses the ES9018. Only the MX5 can play DSD audio.
The MX3S and A30 have subwoofer output; the MX5 does not.
The MX5 has a balanced input; the other two do not.
On the Loxjie A30, you can't connect both a coaxial digital input and an unbalanced analogue input simultaneously. The Topping amplifiers have separate connectors.
Loxjie make no claims about their headphone amp. Topping's specs claim the headphone amp on the MX5 is more powerful and has lower THD+N than the one on the MX3S.
The Loxjie is a graphite colour, whereas the Topping amplifiers are available in black or silver.
The Loxjie has a matrix display which probably means more intuitive menus, but things like the volume are shown in very small digits. The Topping amplifiers have simpler segment displays but show everything in nice big digits.

Which is better depends on which features are important to you.

The Loxjie uses the ESS only for digital input, not for USB. As a USB DAC, it uses the limited Realtek ALC40. See also https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...nput-sound-worse-than-analog-in-solved.39731/

I use my AIO MX3 mostly as a USB DAC for my PC, so the Loxjie A30 would be a step back from the MX3 (let alone the MX3s)

For people with the MX3s, what do you see in Windows as available sound options? it can be tested by going into the Sound settings, Device properties, Additional properties in this dialog (showing the MX3 options)

PS: I see only now that there is a video by @cowdog360 showing the options on a Mac:, and I can see that a6 and 24 bits are available for 48kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz and 192kHz, which also means that 44.1kHz must be available, too. That's really good! Looks like the MX3s is a strong contender to sit on my desk soon. Hoping to see measurements soon (also, for the MX5). It's out of stock at Amazon US, though.

Thanks for this very complete answer

How would the MX3S compare to the Arylic B50? The B50 can be had for just around 100€ and i payed more then double for the MX3S. I know it doesnt have a headphone amp like the MX3S but it gains HDMI, Phono and App control. They also seem to output the same power. What I cant find is the AMP chip in the B50. They just state the Qualcomm QCC3040, which the MX3S also has.

All in all the B50 seems worse at first glance. Topping is also much more forward with the capabilitys.

I got one, had for 4-5 days. Impressions are very good, I'm surprised it doesn't even run warm. it sounds very clean and detailed for 2 channel audio, but then again I use it on the desktop only. I'll try it on the main system next week when time permits..
Really like that there is a pause button on the remote and it seems to stop just about any audio played in windows. Never had that function before.

Mine arrived today. In fact listening to it right. :D

I really have to say I´m very impressed. The USB audio blows the Loxjie A30 out of the water. Finally there is a soundstage! The instruments also dont just mush together. They are clearly separated now. Also whats funny: cause of my limited space i had to lay the Q 3020 on their side and not upright how its supposed to be. With the Loxjie I could clearly tell that cause the highs where coming down from the desk. Now its like the highs are more "in the air"(?) Dont know how to describe it. It just sounds much better.

All things considered Im happy and curious how the MX3S will measure. The only way forward now would be something like a Mission 778X or a NuConnect ampX. But those cost more then double/tripple what the Topping cost and to be honest, would be a bit overkill for 2 Q3020 on the Desktop. I´m primarily gaming and I feel the MX3s is good enough for that.

Oh in one discipline the Loxjie A30 wins hands down and that is volume. It can get MUCH louder then the Topping. But since the use case is 100% nearfield that´s nothing I care about.

How can you estimate that when you haven't measured anything.
