TOPPING MX3s

And here is my (probably stupid) question: it is a real possibility that the USB C end gets disconnected from the DAC due to the cable weight (I must use a 1.5m USB cable, because my PC is under the desk in the opposite corner) ?

The device is small and lightweight: the most likely circumstance is that it gets dragged off your desktop by the weight of the speaker cables, not that the USB port alone gets disconnected.

If you guard against the general weight of connections, you should not have any issues.

Hello guys!
Can anyone please tell, would the mx3s run Moondrop Para phones? It's planar and have extremely low impedance 8 Ohms.
Anyone tried it?
I just dont know how good headphone amp in mx3s. Or should i buy mx5?
Thank you

Does anyone know if Topping MX3s overheat during normal use?
My Topping EX5 DAC + HP Amp surely does pretty quickly after being turned on: with around 28 degrees C (or around 82 degrees Fahrenheit) ambient temperature, the top panel of the case is too hot to be touched with the back of the hand more than 2 - 3 seconds or so, therefore I guess it has a temperature around 50 degrees C (or 122 degrees Fahrenheit). It stays relatively warm even when turned off (not in stand by, but completely switched off by remote / power button).

Never experienced a hot unit, no matter if amp or headphones have been used.

I've run the MX3s rocking out fairly loudly for an hour or two at a time, and all day at moderate volumes. Never noticed a temperature beyond "comfortably warm to the touch".

I bought a Topping MX3s. Everything works fine, but I wonder if I need to configure anything on this tab (see screenshot)? What are these settings for? Can I leave them as default or is it better to configure them? Thanks!

Can just leave them as default, I just ticked all rates out of habit even though it's outputting at 24/48 at all times.

By the way, Topping suggested me a simple way to check the firmware version of the device. You need to turn off the DAC, then press the < > and mute buttons on the remote control separately. The screen will display information about the device firmware. The latest firmware version is 0.12. The second way. Enter DFU mode: First, connect the USB, then press and hold the knob while powering on. A virtual USB drive will appear on the computer, containing a file indicating the version.

PS Perhaps this information will be useful for someone:cool:

What about the encoded formats? If you click the "Test" button for each one, Windows will tell you that these formats don't work. Maybe it makes sense to disable them all?
Don't think it really matters if they;re on or off as they're not being played by the hardware anyway but instead decoded by the software decoders in whatever player (MPC-HC etc).

Has anyone compared the MX3S to either a SMSL AO300 or A300, which sounded best on your audiphile CDs? Thanks in advance!

Why did you decide that they are not being played by the hardware anyway? When you press the "Test" button, you hear a sound signal, which means that they are played by the hardware.

No you do not hear a sound when pressing the test button on the enabled formats section. so no they are not being played by hardware.

The spec sheet says it's 20hz-20khz in low gain and 20hz-40khz in high gain.
Have anybody measured this or heard difference??

Shouldn't be any difference and shouldn't be possible to hear it either apart from higher or lower gain

I had ordered an MX3s, but unfortunately the unit had some issues, and constantly gave error codes "P-d" or "P-0". I contacted Topping and they believe it was a power supply issue. Anyways, luckily that was ordered from Amazon, so the returns were quick and easy. I was really hoping to see Amir's review before I bought, but I am sure he is busy.

Anyways, anyone find the MX3s a little subdued in the mids? I felt it was a little off, but when I connected it to my Topping D30 DAC (as preamp), I found it sounded a little better. The amp worked fine otherwise (actually sounded really nice - except for the freezing of my unit). Anyways, it may also be my unit that had issues. I am waiting on the new one to arrive.
