Topping Mini 300 Amplifier Review

Aye, 7W certainly isn't much. I live in the UK where electricity and gas have got super pricey. Hence I switch most everything off when not being used. I don't even leave my TV on standby due to it's idle use. (20W!)

Thankfully modern amps like the Mini 300 are super efficient, so I guess it's no big shakes to just leave them on.
I have just generally kinda shifted into eco mode of late personally.

And you needn't have one per device obviously.
In 2026 leaving stuff powered on 24/7 is questionable, for a number of reasons I would suggest.

And yes, I question why you would choose to turn the volume down instead of powering off.

Eh just let people do their thing. Leaving the amps on is the amount of effort I want to put into things. I work live sound so the last thing I wanna do when I get home is think about more amps.

One of those things people do is asking questions regarding things they see no good reason for. Let them do their thing ...

Not if is designed properly it doesn't. It's science.

In a previous life we subjected products we designed to 100,000 on/off cycles at one minute intervals. The test took about 10 weeks. If it failed we worked to find out why - implemented a fix, then restarted the test. Test had to pass before we could release the product.

And these were power products (up to around 20kW) with huge capacitor banks and corresponding high energy inrush currents.


100,000 on/off is 60 plus years of 4 on/offs per day.

Can still be designed properly. It is just a topic of correct component selection - not the cost of that component.

It is in a manufacturers interest to do so. People turn their products on and off all the time - if this breaks them the manufacturer is going to be getting a lot of warranty returns.

I have 2 tv 9005XE and HX 720 sony never stop 12/14 y and 7/8 year .. its nearly impossible to off a monitor

Leaving modern amps on 24/7 is a bit like leaving a car running 24/7... so that you don't run down the battery...Or wear out the starter motor.

Definitely a good way to waste energy and money tho.

Makes no sense really.

Leaving fosi V3 always on costs about 10eur per year. I've spent more for less convenience.

I turn my Mini 300 off when it's not in use. In a vague way I'm concerned about putting more time on the electrolytics.

I just find it weird how many folks here leave amps, computers and TVs on out of, well lazyness.(convenience)

Y'all are wasting money and energy/resources. For no reason.

Plus, your gear will most likely fail sooner.

Just to muddy the waters (even more) I'll note the Mini 300 ON/OFF switch does not turn off the supply box.

In my case everything is on a surge-protected circuit that gets switched OFF. I'm worried less about parasitic power and more about the nasty power spikes out where I live.

Have a look at my sig - you've just triggered it.

I measured the DC offsets on mine after letting it cook a few hours. 37mV on the R channel and 17mV on the L channel. That's low enough that a cone speaker won't even notice, and low enough that it won't seriously bias my horn diaphragms.

Leaving equipment on 24/7 for "convenience" makes no sense in the modern world of smart plugs and high power bills. Literally everything in my house is on a surge-protected extension cord connected to a smart plug. "Hey Google, turn on the tv/hifi".
