Topping E70 Velvet (AKM 4499EX)

For those of you that are using this dac with headphones, worth the upgrade? I have a topping d10b that is connected to a speaker amp smsl ao200 to drive hifiMan He6se v2. What differences should I aspect replacing the dac?

There should be absolutely zero difference. Both DACs measure transparent. Heck, you can most likely ditch the d10b and use the internal DAC of the AO200 and it will still sound identical. DACs don't influence the sound unless they are broken or certain filters or EQs are active.

There is no noteworthy difference in delay between DAC ->Sub and DAC->Amp->Sub.
Does that statement assume there are no additional DA / AD (or AD / DA) conversion cycles taking place in during the Amp portion of the chain?

Hope it's okay to ask since it's being discussed and I wasn't able to find a definite answer anywhere else.
I'm currently picking components for a desktop setup and am planning on driving some Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2 with a Topping PA5 II and a Topping E50.
Would I be able to hook an active subwoofer such as the SVS 3000 Micro using the above mentioned method by doing the following:

[PC]--USB-->[Topping E50]-->TRS-->[Topping PA5 II]--Cable-->[Passive Speakers] &
[Subwoofer]--RCA-->[Topping E50]

Or would that only work with the E70(V) that has the ability to choose XLR+RCA Output while the E50 can only choose between TRS or RCA. If that's the case I might opt for the PA5 II and the E70/E70V. Any feedback and insights would be much appreciated :).

Yes.

Thank you so much for the response. Haven't occurred to me to check the online manual, thank you for verifying it - much appreciated!
Ha, now only thing that is left is making a decision between the more compact maybe less capable E50 and the E70/V.

I Ve red that the dac of the ao200 is horrible, at least is compatible with the ps5, the d10b isn't. Anyway why so many people buy expensive dac?

Does it make sense to change SMS D300 to Topping E70V? Will this be a step up?

Hello.

Personally, in addition to finding the TOPPING E70 VELVET excellent, it has a 12V trigger: which is what ALL DACs should have ;)

Regards.

@ Vladetz: I received my TOPPING E70 VELVET with this firmware (v1.07)

Otherwise, much better than the original, the TOPPING RC-22 remote control ->

With this remote control my DAC still has a 'better sound' than before -> LOL !!!

Deleted Member 49915 if you are reading this let me tell you, you are a life saver…I recentlybought e70 velvet and tonight I tried firmware update. I wrote a mail to toppingfor the latest firmware and tecnical support send me version 1.5. So I installed it and the dac went heywire. Screen showing mambo jambo and definitely not working. I was desperate until seeing you sharing version 1.06. Dowloaded it flashed
And yes dac is back to business. You made my day man. Cheers…

Wonder what's up with the 1.07 and not available? Hardware change on new units?

Or addition of DSD filter options?

Hi GPJ :)

Unfortunately, I don't know...
... maybe Topping will tell us one day because I haven't noticed ANY 'HARWARE' change in the DAC (even the chip whose reference is faceted to the right of the XMOS chip seems strictly identical).
There are no changes in the menus either :confused:

I don't have the necessary hardware to make measurements concerning the appearance of the proposed PCM filters and therefore I can't say either if the DSD filter has been modified (higher cut-off frequency) or better that they have added the automatic 'bypass' of the AK4191EQ chip when DSD is 'played' :D

Bye ;)
