Topping E70 Velvet (AKM 4499EX)

I had an E30 II Lite, and I compared it with the E70 Velvet, but I didn't notice any difference in sound, I also have a D10s, and I can hear the difference, less refined on the highs, they are small nuances anyway, I also had a PA5 II Plus , for me in terms of volume it sounds really pianissimo, an Aiyima A07 Max sounds much louder, in terms of sound the Topping PA5 II Plus sounds very good, but too linear for my tastes, I prefer the Aiyima A07 Max in terms of sound, power and volume.
This is my video of the Topping PA5 II Plus

Oh thanks so much! Geez it might just be a cosmetic upgrade then because the tiny, black E30 on my silver amp looks silly

Anyone come from an E30 or D10 and find any sound quality differences or the same?

I'm curious too - if I run the E70 with a PA5 II (I have a Bryston B60, but would like to own a Class D as well), can I connect my speakers via bare wire? Is still a balanced setup then? Thanks.
I briefly had an E30 II prior to the E70 Velvet. The E70 Velvet is absolutely better in terms of detail, soundstage and overall sound signature compared to the E30 II. My guess is that it also counts in comparison to the older E30. The E30 II seems to be tuned as an 'overall signature to the warmer and thicker side' compared to the E70V. The E70V is more balanced in terms of bass to mids and highs. with the E30 II i sometimes had to listen and try too hard to hear the finer details (highs), and with the E70V i do not, and so it is more relaxing in terms of 'sit back, relax and listen and enjoy'.
Also i had the feeling the E30 II had a more 'compact and focussed on the middle' soundstage.

Sounds like a whole lot of mumbo jumbo, I'm sorry.

What are you sorry for? And what mumbo jumbo?.....i am not sorry for saying if that is the only thing you have to say in this topic, then what are you doing here if you don't have anything usefull to say or at least with good arguments.
Try to respect the perception and meaning of other people instead of just 'mumbo jumboing around' in topic's.

Pretty much all of this;
detail, soundstage and overall sound signature
seems to be tuned as an 'overall signature to the warmer and thicker side'
more balanced in terms of bass to mids and highs
had to listen and try too hard to hear the finer details (highs)
so it is more relaxing

These are well measuring DAC's, i.e. transparent to the source, not EQ devices. Have you done any proper level matched comparisons, or is all the above just subjective opinion?

'These are well measuring DAC's, i.e. transparent to the source'.....everything has a sound. Variations and combinations of components can result in a different sound signature of a device.

Are you living by measurements only?

It's a shame there are too many 'I know it all better/these are well measuring dac's' users on this forum, who are beating any discussion to death.

have a nice 'measurement day' sir.............

"Everything has a sound", oh like magic vibration rocks and God forbid, different sounding cables etc?

Can't say I agree. And if this is truly your conviction, I would seek a conviction-based audio forum rather than a science-based one. No ill feelings or meanings intended! Just a bit weird seeing all these things on an audio science forum.

Question for E70 Velvet owners: Can you use both, the XLR and RCA outputs simultaneously? This was an annoying limitation I had on my Musician Draco and Denafrips Ares II DACs that prevented me from hooking up my subwoofer (to RCA) and monoblocs (to XLR) simultaneously (yes, I know those DACs don't have volume controls; I would utilize the volume control in the streamer before the signal hits the DAC).

Hi, it is still a good option to buy this dac for 350 Euro? or something else...

I don’t see why not. In fact I ordered one and am waiting for it to come in.

Loving the E70 Velvet.

Funnily enough, I see SMSL has just released the AK4499EX/4191EQ-based RAW-DAC 1. It's quite a bit more expensive than DO300EX or E70 Velvet. I don't quite understand why pay more for the new RAW-DAC 1 over the DO300EX. At least if for some bizarre reason you listen to MQA, I can see picking either of the SMSLs over the Topping, but within SMSL's own line-up, it seems odd to have the two models against each other.

If you need more than two SPDIF inputs, then the RAW-DAC1 might be worth the extra cost.

Can i control the volume with the PC or do i need a pre amp with volume control since the PA has no volume control?
I also want a active subwoofer connected.

PC USB -> E70 Velvet -> XLR -> Power Amplifier -> Speakers
PC USB -> E70 Velvet -> RCA -> Active subwoofer

Volume can be controlled with the volume slider on your PC, the Topping remote, or the E70V's volume knob.

Adding the subwoofer with RCA on the E70v and the amp with XLR would give no problems?
