Topping E50 II DAC is up on the Topping Store

That is a real shame and does not bode well for the DX1 II, which is from the same 'lineage'...

Hearing real differences between DACs might be more about psychoacoustics than real measurable differences. All modern DAC-chips deliver excellent transparent results if implemented properly. If you level match them I think none will be able to hear any differences. For me the E50 II is about high output voltage with minimal distortion (real and measurable) and perceived ideas about transients, sibilants and pre- and postringing (mostly ESS-chips).
While the debate over AKM versus ESS chips always brings out strong opinions on roll-off and filter implementations, modern implementations of both are essentially audibly transparent when properly designed. In my day-to-day use, what separates a good piece of hardware from a great one is how well its thermal performance, interface stability, and firmware updates hold up over years of continuous desktop operation.

Did anyone else's android app stop working after yesterday's update? I tap on the icon, it says connecting, then connected, then nothing happens, then it says not connected.

I might have to find the previous apk somewhere.

o_O

It really seems that since the arrival of 'Topping Tune', customers have turned into 'beta testers'... either release a fully functional device, or don't release it at all

New update came out on 26th July, it's working again

*Fixed: Abnormal volume when switching between UAC1 and UAC2.

Updating mine to 1.50 caused it to stop output sound at all. No issues reported in windows or by the dac - no amount of resetting or reinstalling anything fixed it - its like the dac's analogue output on the back is just dead. Replacement arrives Sunday - i wont be updated firmware at all if they cannot be bothered to have the system working for everyone. I followed directions to a T.

AI chatbot claims this is a known issue and the only fix is a downgrade of the firmware, but I dont see anywhere that is actually claiming this directly and it refused to provide sources, so who knows. Likely that was all "hallucination" (a euphemism for the bot just lying).

Other than that, I was rather impressed with the dac's ability to have crystal clear highs with ZERO annoyance AT ALL - no sibilance or such ear bleeding qualities. Nuetral, but like, actually, and in a good way.

Oh crap, but lucky you'll get a new unit at least

Edifier 4.5 which claims this frequency response plus wide sweet spot

I just flashed my E50 II to 1.50 and everything is working fine. For the procedure, I used a power bank USB-C to DAC USB-C for power and USB3 PC to the DAC USB-C data. Flashed normally without issues.

I love this E50 II, it is excellent. Still have the E70, E70V, and D30 Pro ........ no issues with any of them.

I too had it separately powered and sent data, via 2 C-cables, one to PC, one to psu. I followed direction to a T - it effectively bricked, as the anologue stage was stuck entirely on mute or something like that, and no factory reset or anything would fix it. OH well, replacement is here and I dont see any reason to upgrade from the included 1.46 as the things claimed to be fixed by future updates are not of any concern to my use.

6. What's updated

*Fixed: Known issues.

Hallelujah it worked for me too. I guess the AI was correct that the 1.50 would have some issues with some number of E50 II's - I thought it might not be hallucinating when the second support reply offered firmware 1.49 to flash back to in case 1.50 was an issue again. Good times. Or rather - interesting times.

People hi :D

I also installed the firmware v1.51 without any issues, and I haven't encountered a single operational problem with this DAC.

It pairs perfectly with the TOPPING Mini 300 amplifier; it is truly incredible to get equipment of this caliber for such a modest price.
Personally, I see no point in spending exorbitant amounts to get something "superior", as the difference would likely only be detectable through measurements—any real benefit would be purely aesthetic, given that this DAC is already fully featured

Have a nice day ;)

Today I installed the new firmware (v 1.51) and it seems that I got rid of the pops, interruptions and distortions that the dac was showing. I thought it was a hardware problem but it seems not (God help!).

Yes, that's correct.

The brand names and part numbers have been removed (as seen in the photo).

This is likely done to discourage users from swapping them out for just anything; otherwise, they might end up reinstalling the exact same parts—since they wouldn't know the reference number—yet still convince themselves that the "sound is better"...

I know which ones they are, but I won't tell you -> LOL :p

In reality, there may be subtle differences in "sound reproduction" between one DAC and another; however, given today's technical advancements, standard measurements fail to reveal these distinctions—provided, of course, that the circuitry is competently designed.

To truly assess this, one would need to conduct a wide range of measurements using complex musical excerpts—reflecting real-world usage—rather than relying on signals at fixed frequencies.

By overlaying graphs and employing complex algorithms, it would then be possible to objectively determine whether a difference exists and identify the underlying cause, maybe...

Currently, such testing is not performed.

Based on existing measurements and the known limits of human perception, we can only conclude that DACs are "transparent"—meaning there is no audible difference—and that the device is well-engineered and free of defects, much like the findings presented in Amirm's reviews
