Topping DX7 Pro DAC and Headphone Amp Reviewed

Lemons exist in every brand, some more than others. They're still a great deal, even if kaput in 4-5 years.
I would say it depends on the model. Honestly for something that costs $600+ I wouldn't want it to last 4-5 years. Especially when it is going to be relevant basically forever in terms of audio quality.

My Topping DX7 Pro is dead, it won't turn on. I tried another power cable that I know works and checked the fuse. Topping poor quality strikes again.
Please disconnect the power cable, leave it for a few hours, and then try to operate it again.
Leaving it for a long time is to allow the internal charge to completely discharge and reset. If this does not work, there is an internal failure.

He said he rarely uses it; so my guess is that this has already been done.

I did that, it is still dead.

Yeah I suppose, especially since prices have been going up. But again we have to think about sampling bias here, and scale it accordingly. We hear mostly reports of lemons, but these are on the tail of a wider distribution. If the worst lemons a company produces quit after 4-5 years, then I would assess that to be a very good record. Especially for a product as complex as this one.

I understand that every company has defective units, however I fully expect a unit that cost $600 to last far longer than mine did, especially with it being used very little. My Sansui 7070 receiver I purchased new back in 1976 or so (?) is still going strong. I've had a ton of vintage equipment through my house over the years and I've had very, very few issues. I had another Topping product (headphone amplifier) that was replaced by Topping.

Well of course we have to try to understand failure rates.
I personally have topping products for 7+ years now and they still work.

It's a long time ago, but as a Sony fan, I bought Sony's most expensive stereo amplifier and CD player, but both broke after four years. At the time, there was a lot of talk in Japan that Sony products were equipped with a Sony Timer that would automatically break down after a certain amount of time.
Any product will eventually break down. Whether it happens sooner or later depends on the quality of the product, but it's also a matter of luck. Even if it doesn't break, like Apple products, there are cases where the performance of the old model drops significantly every time the OS is updated, forcing you to replace it.
The quality of Chinese audio products has improved significantly from a while ago, but it's still not enough.

Is it possible to control any settings via an operating system (Windows or Linux)?

Would love to change outputs using a keyboard shortcut

Been googling around but haven't found anything, so assuming no

Get an IR transmitter and what you describe should be possible.

Take out the lme opamp off headphone section and swap out the preamp
lme opamp with Muses 02 or muses 8920 , what a increase in dynamics and overall sound improvement. Have a r2r as main dac, this was a lousy sound sterile before but now it's approaching 80 percent of r2r dac.

Right, none of this happened.
R2R typically sounds like 1952 trash sound with high distortion.

Hi there everyone.
New to this forum.
I have a topping dx7 pro connected to my Auralic Aries LE.
I’m feeding digital signals through USB into my dac.
The strange thing is, even though my dac Is set to Dac-mode, the volume control Is still active when I select the Usb-input.
Is It supposed to be like that?
It is not active through the other inputs.
I dissabled volume control in my streamer, but that did not help.

Regards Tommi

do anyone have static / electrical noise when using high gain without playing anything?

just turning high for me, adds a super low slight yet still audible background noise using the 3.5 jack output to the headphones

In High gain, the DX7Pro has about 35% more noise than in Low gain.

That's unavoidable.

Whether this is audible, depends entirely on your headphones, listening environment, and your hearing.

hello everyone
I've had the ‘Topping Dx7 pro’ since it came out, and it's always worked well, although there was a time when I thought it was bad (ground loop...).
I use all its inputs, especially the optical input for the sound coming from my television. Everything was fine until I changed my old television (Samsung +13 years) for an LG 55G4...
Since then, the sound has cut out every 10 seconds on a regular basis, only on the optical output; TV connected via BT, no worries.
Of course I've tried every possible setting on the TV, which has given me nothing.

For my part, I'm afraid it's the dx7 pro that can't read the format proposed by LG, but I have no idea what I'm talking about!

If you have any ideas ??
Thank you
