Yup. I might buy again in the future, but I will wait a few months until most of the bugs are gone.

I truly think you received a defective unit, and no amount of FW updates would have resolved the problem you've experienced.

Yeah. I think the same, because no one has reported the same problem. But still pretty dissapointed and I don't think I will order a new unit right away.

Even if you ordered one now, you wont possibly receive it for 3 months if Shenzhenaudio's backlog is applicable to all retailers.

Just to clarify topping's own store is listing a month delay on new orders, so if you eventually want to get one again get it direct from Topping.

You could probably order it directly from Topping, and get it a lot sooner than 3 months.

Hi.

I find it surprising, even rather 'strange', that a company such as TOPPING takes more than 3 months to relaunch a series of DACs (here the DX5 II) while much smaller companies take much less time and with fewer resources.

Is there a 'special' reason for this?...
Has this new series undergone material modifications compared to the first version marketed 'hastily'?...

It seems to be about demand, as they stated as the initial batch was already sold out

Has anyone measured the power consumption of the DX5 II?
Specific in standby (with and without USB connection

Some quick measurements with Shelly Plug S (1W resolution, I don't know about accuracy):

powered off via remote: 1W
powered on, no sound, no USB connected: 5W
powered on, no sound, with USB connected: 5-6W
Question: can you test
HP Amp on
HP Amp off (DAC out only)

It will be very usefull if THD+N graph will be measured at both BWs, 90 kHz and 20 kHz.

Looking at this graph, many users will conclude that device has more distortion in the range 10 kHz - 20 kHz.
When in the reality it's just ultrasonic harmonic components ( higher than 20 kHz) which are inaudible.

Limited 20 kHz THD+N graph were performed by L7Audiolab and NwAvGuy

Discussion is here as well

Will the DX5 II go into standby when the USB is not connected for some time?
5W is way towards much.

I don't think so. Manual only mentions that to go to standby you need to use power button on remote, or long-press volume knob, or use 12V trigger. No mention of automatic standby.

I misread the manual, I thought that "Signal" section was about 12V signal. DX5 II does go to standby if USB is not connected for 1 minute by default.

But this automatic standby state seems to use 4W instead of 1W standby when you manually put it into standby.

EDIT: Seems that my meter isn't accurate enough for this low power consumption. I'm getting conflicting results with standby being 1W or 4W.

I have a topping G5 that I only use on the desktop… would the DX5 be a worthy upgrade for Focal Clear and Edition XS?

Yep, can't be 1W at stby by all means, I would be illegal in Europe.
We should be careful with such measurements.
