Topping DX5 II

Good grief the amount of transient smearing and phase shift of that eq situation, not to mind your business but can't you just simplify it to 3-4 bell dips? Also you're basically shaving lower mids where most information sits to make top and bottom pop-up
The filters were calculated using REW based on in room measurements several years ago. I have significantly changed my desk and room since the measurements were taken, so I need to do them again and will take a look a reigning REW this time.

I love mine and just got one after reading the review. I love this device!

Has anyone ever encountered error where it got stuck at "Unlock" on the screen and its not detected at all in Windows? somehow I got this after leaving my PC on for couple of days

The only weird thing that happened was I noticed one week that my DX5 II wasn't going into standby mode. I thought it was because I started using the mail app on my Mac (which was left open), so the computer was simply waking up all the time because it kept getting mail notifications, so I shut the app down. However, the DX5 II still wouldn't go into standby mode, so I went into the Audio MIDI app, and saw that the DX5 II was greyed out (and I think "Unlock" was on the screen, but I honestly didn't look close enough). I believe I turned it off/back on from the switch at the back, and the device was no longer greyed out in the MIDI app.

Hasn't happened again, but there's been two FW updates since then (and I shut down the mail app). I'm also keeping a bit of a closer eye to see if it mysteriously disappears from my connected devices list the in the MIDI app again.

Now, my setup situation is a little different in that I have to have a USB DDC in between my computer and DX5 II (it fixes a popping issue from my Mac's USB output), so it could be related to that kind of connection chain, but I think what happened is very similar to what you experienced. I still maintain a USB connection with the DX5 II for FW updates, too.

Glad to see it listed at £299 so the price hasn't been inflated at all. I already got impatient and ordered direct from Topping, which was £221 but assuming VAT is added when it lands then will be £265. So for the sake of £34 saving I'd probably just buy from a good UK retailer (like Peter Tyson you linked to) and then be covered for returns and warranty.

Because it's not being imported through the US.

I noticed that after updating to the latest firmware the dx5ii's volume can be still controlled with volume knob even if it is in dac mode. This is normal in preamp mode.In Dac mode it should always provide max output. Have you experienced the same issue?

Not on LO BAL. On the HPA outputs, volume is always controllable.

However, when switching from preamp mode to DAC mode, returning to the home screen and then switching back to preamp mode, volume is set to 0.0 dB even if waiting 30 seconds in preamp mode to save the volume. Even just cycling it in the menu does that. I reported this to Topping. FW 1.66.

Which output? HPA or LO? If the former, then that's the expected behaviour.

huh mine is now okay after the latest FW update, however on mac, i'm starting to receive some "audio drop out" when playing through PlexAmp. it loses sound every some interval (30s-60s). it doesn't happen when i play it on my mac speaker so its not the internet or the file, also it doesn't happen on my PC as well.

However my setup is topping dx5ii is connected to monitor usb hub (dell U2427DE) so I don't need to change between my PC and mac.

does it matter if the output is HPA All vs HPA Bal only? my headphone is using the Bal output. I've changed it to HPA BAL for now but the issue persist

edit: this seems to be reduced a lot by changing the spdif mode to 2 when connected to my mac, not sure why. the audio drop out is less frequent but still happens

6. What's updated

• Fixed: The issue that the mute icon didn't disappear after adjusting the volume in mute state.

More interesting to me is there is an updated version of Topping Tune. I wonder if it will fix any of the PEQ data being undesirably overwritten.

If that's the only thing fixed I'll wait for newer firmwares

This has not been resolved in FW1.67.

Anyone else have the wrong EQ profile being selected when you use the C1 and C2 buttons?

I have EQ1 set to both C1 and C2 and it will randomly select EQ5 for C2, but then I press C2 again and it will go back to the correct EQ 1.

Topping could not recreate it. Not a huge deal, but seems like a bug. I am in windows 11.

I just received the DX5II with firmware 1.57 and I immediately updated to 1.67!
But are the settings lost with every firmware update?! It's crazy..

There is a Topping Tune for Mac, now. v1.06, it says, so it is a version behind?
