Topping DX5 II

There were some issues saving the PEQ settings. If I just switch the output instead of using the remote to change the user settings, then the PEQ won't follow the output changes. I talked to an engineer at Topping, and they said they're going to fix this in the next firmware update. I'm gonna start using my speaker now.

I’ve made some tweaks to my room, which helped achieve a smooth high frequency response, and surprisingly, the low frequency room mode has given me better depth at low freq, -5db to 30hz. But the downside is that the two speakers have some pretty serious mismatched low frequency response issues. I think I need to measure and calibrate the low frequencies together before processing the mid frequencies separately.

Sorry for sending the picture in such a silly way. But right now it sounds really good, the overall sound is correct, and the left-right consistency is great. There's no audible distortion. The low and high frequency are very balanced, although there are a few tracks with some minor issues in the left or right channels at certain low frequencies (but to be honest, those tracks are pretty rare). Also, it clearly doesn't add any noticeable THD to the speaker system.

I was silly enough to forget that I could still measure both speakers at the same time after independently calibrating the mid frequency. This is a frequency response that looks pretty normal after calibration. Overall, aside from some software and system issues, this device is almost perfect in every other way.

What speakers do you use?

a pair of questions I didn't see on the thread

1- Does the DX5 offer the 2 SPDIF modes 1 and 2 like the dx7 pro+? Since topping devices have a LOT of problems with micro-cuts, stuttering and crackling with a lot of optical spdif devices like asus motherboards that require que mostly newly added mode 2 of the dx7 pro+ to work as expected without those problems.

On the dx7 the 2 modes were offered on the config menu that you needed to manually enter, not on the main basic menu.

2- does it support PEQ over the optical input? Or is it limited to USB?

I'm using the toslink optical input. The dx5ii supports PEQ for all inputs or output configurations.

Chart's y axis should be narrowed to 50dB as we always do here for easy comparison.
Yours is a whooping 120dB.

I'll post new later. There should be no problem if the vertical coordinate range is set between 40db and 85db?

Wherever it suits you to be visible, just within 50dB range.

Received mine just now, and I have to say that I'm not thrilled with the quality of the chassis machining. The top back of the unit looks awful, much worse in person than this picture shows. Unfortunately I don't think there's anything I can do about it, as the cost of shipping back is nearly half the cost of the unit.
The sticker on the bottom is quite the monstrosity, lol. and yeah, the feet came that dirty in the box, although I believe the foam packing material is what's stuck to it.

That's definitely not normal. Where did you order it from? Mine is scheduled to arrive today, and I ordered it from Amazon, so I likely won't have to pay anything to return if it comes to that.

shenzhenaudio on aliexpress, it's definitely newer manufactured as it already comes with 1.49 FW.

Counterfeit? Wouldn't be the first time...

Perhaps not hard to check: Do others also have labels stating "power consimption"?

AliExpress is a tough one for returns, but I got lucky last time I had to return something from that site -- fortunately, the seller gave me an option to send it to a local facility to avoid any of the customs nonsense, and didn't charge me to return the item (it was a Topping MX5 that had its left channel die on me within the first two weeks. AOSHIDA was the seller).

Sorry to hear that there are some manufacturing blemishes on your unit. I don't think that that's typical of them. Mine was basically ordered from Shenzhenaudio's Amazon shop (Fanmusic, technically, but the info also says Ships from/Sold by Shenzhenaudio)

Doubtful. It was ordered from Shenzhenaudio.

I would chalk that up to being a minor typo, and a common occurrence (I've seen typos on Topping's marketing material a few times).

Edit: If you pause this video at 5:56, you can see that is says "consimption" on the sticker, so it's probably on all of them:

This thing can't be new.
And they would be fools if they don't get it back at their expense, that's a straight dealbreaker to any potential costumer.
