Topping DX5 II

Found new firmware dated July 17th 2025 with this changelog so maybe some of the changes we can expect for the new firmware. I don't want to post the link as the firmware might be untested or broken but thought the changelog is interesting.

*Fixed: After detecting abnormal headphone amp DC, the main interface no longer displays "HP DC abnormal".
*Fixed: Audio distortion when switching sampling rates via USB DoP input.
*Fixed: Display lag when rapidly adjusting volume in FFT and VU meter interfaces.
*Optimized: The 5 system preset PEQs can now be edited (parameters and names) or deleted directly via Tune.
*Optimized: EQ entries in the menu are now shown as "number + name" instead of just a number.
*Added: Option to retain PEQ configurations when restoring factory settings.
*Added: In the FFT interface, when adjusting volume, switching inputs, or switching outputs,
a large-font display will appear for 3 seconds before returning to the normal interface.
*Fixed: Several other known issues.
Your URL search had me going and finding the same as you. 1.49 dated 7/17/25.

Sounds like they are making good progress. This and the Topping Tune update.

Yeah I would just advice not to install it as it may have some potentially device bricking bug they discovered hence them not releasing it. Or it works and they just use public URLs for their internal testing.

Don't worry, it's just software for your PC; you can simply uninstall or delete it. It can't block your device.

Agreed. Cool to see, but no way I would install.

My black preorder from Apos just got bumped from tomorrow ship to late August. Going to have to rock the E30/L30 for a bit longer.

No I mean the unreleased hidden firmware might brick the device if it has some serious bug. Topping Tune is safe to install

It should still allow installing an earlier, working firmware or not?

Not sure. I'm not very experienced with low level firmware/software especially for such a complex device as this but maybe the upgrading tool allows downgrading or it always expects newer versions to ensure compatibility. But assuming the worst case that this unreleased firmware bricks the device thus rendering it unusable I assume it would be impossible to downgrade even if supported. So unless someone is brave enough to install it and record it working I'll wait for Topping to officially release the update :)

One would hope that there was a method to factory reset in the event the unit bricks, and the menu is inaccessible (but still powers on).

I was unable to find V1.32 which should exist somewhere to test it. Maybe someone else has it.

If it no longer recognises the conditions for firmware update - volume knob pressed while flipping mains switch on - that would be a big problem.

There is. Pressing the volume knob while flipping mains switch on. With bad firmware that is dysfunctional by default this is no good, of course. Unless you mean reverting to the original firmware.

According to https://www.toppingaudio.com/faq their other devices have a separate DFU mode for flashing the firmware so if v1.49 is bugged one should at the very least be able to update to the newer and working soon to be released version. Unless a downgrade to 1.39 also works of course.

I'm just imagining some crazy some hypothetical scenario where the firmware update goes so wrong it overrides the DFU "code" stored on the device or something resulting in it bricking. But the chance of this happening is probably low.

I couldn't find v1.32 but v1.38 exists which some people in this thread talked about earlier if you're willing to try it

Although they apparently removed it and released v1.39 on the same day so maybe it had some bugs?

Thanks. I just want to test if it installs it. Afterwards, I am going back to 1.39.
It allows 1.38 to be installed when using 1.39. However, the factory reset is no longer possible using the volume knob press during power up, Maybe that was a bug I had in the beginning. Now it remembers all settings apart from volume setting.

So are you stuck on 1.38 now?

Well if you dare installing v1.49 tell us if it works :)
No. Not yet although I have the files. I don't think it would go over well with the seller, if I requested a replacement or repair for having bricked it with an unreleased firmware. Maybe you do it now that you know you can install earlier firmwares.

Well the feature of being able to delete the 5 preinstalled PEQ presets is appealing but not at the cost of potentially bricking it so I'll also wait :D But thanks for verifying that you can downgrade the firmware
