Topping DX5 II

I would attribute that to the cost of manufacturing any shared parts/components being a little less expensive today, and possibly other things like the case isn't nearly as expensive to produce. It's hardly anything to be "concerned" about.
Lets just hope this is like a modern day Dx3 pro+ big brother/on steroids.. because that little guy was a gem for $200.

I mean, it's all speculation on my part, but I've seen manufacturers release an updated version of something for the same price as its predecessor (i.e. the PS4 and the PS4 Pro were both the same MSRP when they were released even though the Pro used some updated components).

One thing that concerns me, as it should others not that I'm trying to spoil the joy of the price point.. but dx5 OG was what $450-600? In this day in age when everything is more expensive, obv at this point $300 out the door for a successor is pondering.. w/ EQ mind you and the 7.6w headphone output.
I couldn't believe the price either but performance is there without any doubt: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...-balanced-dac-and-headphone-amp-review.64264/

It even has a DSP!

I think we reached the top of the line, you don’t need anything past this since you already have enough power and enough quality to have any “flaw” past audible threshold, so the only way for the future is: less expensive and/or with more auxiliary features or stuff like more portable and squeezing more out of usb-c keeping the same power delivery and fidelity. Technology is deflationary by nature.

The Jcally JM12 at max output pushes my HD650 to loud enough SPL without any other audible flaws I can perceive, which is pretty astonishing for something that cost only $4. My cheapest Ugreen RCA cable cost at least double of that.

Do you want to defend a product that factory resets itself? Please go ahead a give me a reason why I should keep a device where I need to dial up all my settings to use it everytime I want to hear some music?

Do you actually even own the unit?
I would also advise you to return the device.
The fact that the device constantly forgets its settings and resets itself to factory defaults is unacceptable and indicates a defect. A firmware problem is rather unlikely.

But you should leave the device plugged in for 24 hours and not turn it off using the switch on the back. Then test again, of course.

Im a going to do that, but either way, it's just not a normal behaviour and will be sending it back most likely.

You definitely have a defective unit that must be replaced or repaired. Don’t keep it in its current condition!

Thanks. Waiting for Topping's reply but I already reported it to Audiophonics to send it back.

Did you ask for a replacement or are you going to go with something else?

Topping has not replied yet, but the seller has told me that that is not normal and offered a return. I really like the DX5 II but I might just keep my SMSL C200. Still need to think about it.

I think if you went through a 3rd party retailer, it would be up to them to send you a replacement. I bet you Topping will respond by saying that you'll have to deal with Audiophonics.

I know. Audiophonics already offered sending it back at no cost for a return, so all good. The problem is that I don't know what triggers the reset settings, it just happens randomly so they might think that everything is fine and charge me 30€. I already warned them, but I don't think they will care and try the unit enough to see it happening.

If you have it under 14 day then you have the Right of withdrawal.

ARTICLE 8. RIGHT OF WITHDRAWAL

Before returning any Product, the Customers must notify AUDIOPHONICS of their intent to exercise their right of withdrawal with an unambiguous written statement, through the withdrawal form available online on the Customer’s account.

Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal without giving any reasons.

Within the first two weeks you can just return it and get your money back by European law.

Thanks to both. The reason I picked was "defective unit" so that's maybe why they said that. Anyways, I want to hear what Topping has to say about it, cause they might know what is causing this issue.

If a seller would threaten me to charge me with 30€, I would immediately return the item. That's in my opinion very bad practice.

I agree, but this is what they said

So Im worried that they will just plug it, see that it makes sound and charge me 30€...

If you give them clear instructions, then they shouldn't have any trouble reproducing the issue. Just from what you have said, it seems like it's a pretty easy issue to reproduce :)

I would make two videos. The first one where you make all the settings.
Then, every time you turn the camera on, let it run until all the settings are gone, and show that in the video.
