Topping DX5 II

I just received a reply from my issue log submissions.

“Dear Sir

Thank you for contacting TOPPING support. We are happy to assist.
Thank you very much for everyone's input and feedback! We will register all the suggestions and issues raised and carry out unified testing. Once this round of testing is completed, we will address each question accordingly.
We truly appreciate everyone's attention and support for the DX5II! If there is any further feedback, please feel free to share it with us at any time.

Best Regards,

Also, @audiofun I passed along the feature request you mentioned.

I guess it remains to be seen what action they take, but their response is very promising; I'm impressed so far.

Peeled off the little rubber feet from the device and added the little aluminium feet I picked up last month with some double sided tape. Looks pretty nice IMHO.
Got it hooked up to my main PC using USB and my work laptop through Bluetooth. A quick press on the <Input> button and I can easily switch sources.

I'll be bringing it along when I try a couple of open back headphones later this year at a shop nearby.

Hello can u sene me the link for that aluminium feet? It looks amazing like this.
I have another question about the sound, compared to the dx3 pro has a similar clinical sound or it was more "warmy" can u compare this two?

The link is in my previous post I quoted but that's just the link to the manufacturer since I bought mine in a physical store in Japan.

No clue about the comparison to any other models.

Neither of them should have any sort of sound. They're transparent.

Great news! This is exactly why you should contact the manufacturer directly with any issue -- they do take the time to respond, and actually investigate. I think they won't have any trouble reproducing the issues (they seems easily reproduceable to me), and will hopefully come back with more great news of fixes to these issues. According to a response from Bleib, we should be expecting another FW update soon with a few of those fixes. I think some of the issues listed in your report were previously reported to them, like PEQ profiles not saving correctly, and might be part of the hopefully-soon-to-be-released FW update.

As they say: not all heroes wear capes

That is always the rub with this stuff: how much of it are they going to take seriously. Any time I've contacted them, they have always responded. I cannot say the same for SMSL...

Got mine a week ago and I'm fairly disappointed by the sound. Mids and especially voices, sound a lot more forward (compared to my DX3 Pro+) and the there is a lack of sub bass that EQ can't fix, the unit just doesn't seem to produce sufficiently low. Very similar to my K11 R2R. My DX3 Pro+ does much better. The features of the DX5 II are really good and are worth the price for sure but the sound falls short.

Should we slowly understand that there is a good reason for devices like Fiio K17/K19 or Luxsin X9 to cost so much more than the Topping?
Personally, I am almost thinking about reselling it and invest on devices that seem to be better

I'll reserve judgement until I see results from Amir. To my ears, the DX5 II sounds identical to the SMSL RAW MDA 1 that it replaced.

As others have said, at this level of maturity in DACs, they should all be transparent. Anything that's audible should show up in the tests that Amir runs.

Subjective evaluation is very difficult to perform because you have to remove all variables apart from the DAC from the equation, particularly the relative signal level. Time and again, it has been shown that when such variables are controlled for and tests are done blind, evaluators cannot determine a difference.

With all that being said, you should absolutely do what's right for you. If you trust your ears, then you should make a buying decision based on that. I, personally, don't trust my own ears, and I certainly don't put any trust in anyone else's.

What I do care about, is if the sound is pleasant to me. So far, it is, so I'm happy.... I would like it if the bugs were fixed though, particularly EQ data saving.

Well... Also Quality Control has a cost, and it seems that Topping wanted to save it.
But we buyers have anticipated a lot of money to Topping...

The thing about subjective "reviews" like that is the measurements often don't support what they're claiming. Sited/confirmation bias has a lot to do with the way we perceive how things sound. Also, our brains are dumb, and cause us to hear things that don't exist.

No they haven't. A lot of the reported issues are typical of newly-released products, and Topping is working on fixing them.

You know that the last pages of this thread is the exact definition of beta-testing, right?
That's not typical,at all.

Gear that you payed for should be black-boxes, at least 100% ready at their basic operation and more so at their advertised selling points (like EQ,etc) .
Picture here is far from it.

IMHO it looks like (and probably is the case) the software "component" is harder than they expected.
Which is no excuse for releasing a product that doesn't work as advertised.

Until they decide to include a dedicated DSP chip (for example as FiiO K17 fashion), problems will continue.
People here talk about an essentially DSP subsonic filter for DC for example.

That could be a good idea if the recourses needed for a proper one would be available. Problem is that the lower we filter, the more recourses we need.
Are these recourses available even at the cost of fewer remaining filters for example? Would the filter-stacking be optimal?

The above needs testing (so time) and adjustment. I'm not very optimistic about it. Specially considering the conclusions here:

If I understand correctly, the Shenzhenaudio brands are cooperating, so hopefully it's solvable. We will see...

What are the actual bugs you've personally experienced on your units? I've been using mine for a couple weeks now and have had no issues.

I think this thread is greatly exaggerating how 'broken' the product is.

Reads like an advertising.

I disagree.
I bought it mainly for the PEQ on all inputs (which is unusable now). Otherwise I would have kept my old DAC&Amp

I have no comprehension for this bug. And I have even less comprehension for the fact that it has not yet been fixed...

Hey guys . Should I change my dx5 lite , for new dx5 ii? I just using for sone music and games .
