Topping DX5 II

My guess they are fixing it being linked on DX9 page as previous mentioned

The one I bookmarked clearly stated DX9

OK, new firmware

6. What's updated

Enabled: Setup -> Input Settings -> Input Options -> Auto-detect

Adjustment: C1 and C2 now save all offset parameters for the entire unit

Added: "PEQ Switch" option to the function selection for A/B buttons and knob press

Fixed: Volume not being set to maximum in DAC mode for line output when volume memory is enabled

Fixed: Abnormal display of Bluetooth device names on some Android phones

Fixed: Abnormal FFT display after waking up from standby

Fixed: Several other known bugs

Is the front XLR connection balanced? On the manual it states the rear ones are, but it only lists the 4.4 on the front as being balanced.

front 4.4 and xlr are all balanced. they get twice of voltage swing compared to the SE output.

Are you sure? Only reason I ask is because I found a good deal on an XLR cable but on my Topping EX5, which has balanced output for the rear XLRs, doesn't for the front. I can't return the cable either.

I don't really understand what you are talking about... rear XLR is 3 pin, for connecting to studio monitors / amplifiers. front XLR is 4 pin, for balanced headphones. they are not even the same thing.

The old DX5 only has SE outputs, also via 4-pin XLR.

The new DX5 II outputs the balanced signal via 4.4mm AND 4-pin XLR. This means two amplifiers per channel with approximately four times the power of the 6.35mm SE output.

When using your 4-pin XLR headphone cable, make sure it's a genuine balanced cable and not just a fake SE cable, which could damage the EX5 II. Unfortunately, some sellers sell such things.

However, the power wirh the HE6SE is slightly disappointing. I expected more. There is definitely less power than on the L70. With EQ I have to go all the way to 0dB...
But don't get a wrong impression.
This beauty has a looot of power, and the bass is simply brutal with the HE6SE.
I just listen to very, very loud EDM.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, Topping has created an absolutely sensational product. Especially for the price, it totally degrades the competition!
l70 and dx5ii has the similar amount of power for balanced. According to the spec driving a HE6se may only differ 1db between the two devices.
At 32-64 ohms, the power difference is at least 1 watt, or more.
The DX5 II's power is specified at THD+N <1%, while the L70's is specified at THD+N <0.1%, so unfortunately, there are no comparable figures.

Amir's review of the DX5 II will hopefully shed some light on how big the difference actually is.
But nevertheless, the DX5 II has very high power. Not just for the price, and not just for a combo unit.

I have now installed 1.39, but my EQ profile is still not saved correctly on the device (Windows 11).

Same issue. My personal opinion is even though the product is pretty attractive at the first glance (price, design and performance), when you actually use it day to day, you'll quickly find the experience is half baked. I got it yesterday and already found a few serious bugs after one day of usage, and none of them are fixed in the 1.39 firmware.
I'm thinking about returning it back to the seller, and take a look at it again half a year later. We'll see if most of the imperfections are ironed out after a period of time.

1% and 0.1% are cut at almost similar power readings, if you look at their power graph (page 58 of the manual). there's almost no difference.
Also the 1 watt difference you talk about is almost nothing in power, once you have a ~7W power output. it's just around 1 db. Remember doubling the power only has 3db gain.

the person who posted the comment (@Bow_Wazoo) already mentioned there's a EQ bug that made him/her feel that way. If both are tested without EQ, he/she won't notice the difference. He/She mentioned L70 can drive the phone into clipping at -10dB. So can DX5II.

So maybe waiting another month or 1,5 when my delivery happen is a good thing after all
Was the case with my EX5, I was lucky to buy late and so get one with the latest firmware out of the box.
Many products, esp. software and electronics, are thrown at the market like green bananas (they ripe at their customers).

Frankly, this is unacceptable. Releasing a device with so many bugs and critical firmware updates right from the start is hard to understand. I’m supposed to receive my DX5-2 on Monday, and I’m seriously considering cancelling my order.

I feel like I've bought a new video game. Now it's time to wait for patches

Only if they fix those bugs.
Quantization bug of D50III, for instance, are left unfixed. They also have no plan to support EQ settings for each channel, which doesn't require more processing power.
And it's only a 1 year old product.
I'll return mine for now. I'd see if they do fix most of the bugs, before clicking the order button again.
