That's the one thing I'm going to have to get used to... right now I have it set up so that I control the volume manually with my HPA, and power amp separately (D50 III is in DAC mode), and there's no risk of there being any potential blow out.

Can you say what happens if you have the DX5 II in DAC mode, and you switch to the HPA? The scenario would be listening to music through speakers, then switching to headphones.

I would recommend saving exactly these two states with a predetermined volume as presets on the remote control under C1 and C2.

That's how I have it currently set up. Only worry is using the remote the volume and input/output selection are too close and easy to misclick. *edited* just noticed I replied to the wrong post.

Had read this as well. I normally use Apple Music from an iOS device so can't actually confirm the sampling rate but I'll hook up a windows laptop and I check through the driver. Oddly enough when I first set up the DX5 ii the first time it sounded even worse than it does now, which seemed to be fixed by power cycling it. So that's possible that there is some kind of software bug. Once I've done a blind test, if I still think there is an issue I'll contact topping support. I've also had a blast of loud output when wearing headphones and switching outputs which has scared me pretty good leaving the HD800s hooked up when the device is supposed to remember volume settings. As soon as I reduced the volume by .5 db with the remote the volume jumped back down to the setting I had left it on. Makes me nervous with the amount of power the headphone amp can put out.

Is it in low gain or high gain and are you using single-ended or balanced?

In low gain, the headphones are safe unless there is some DC in the output, since 8.6 dBV at 300 Ohm is only 24 mW RMS and 14.6 dBV at 300 Ohm is 96 mW RMS and the HD800S are rated at a maximum power of 500 mW RMS. Even full volume in high gain on the single ended output is safe since it only produces 250mW RMS at 300 Ohm.

I was using high gain single ended before but on low gain now after the full volume blast. Thank you for posting this. It does look like full volume even on high gain wouldn't be enough to blow them up. But balanced output on high gain is almost a full watt into 300 ohms so won't use that for the hd800S.

The topping could connect directly to my headphones and active monitor speakers. If anybody could test the latency, that'd be cool!

The delay of the filters is at most 854 µs, i.e. 0.854 ms. How much that contributes to the overall I don't know, however.

I’d like to confirm the information from Audiophonics stating that the 10-band equalizer is still in testing at Topping. I assume the first units shipping now won’t include it yet, and that a firmware update may be required in a few months.

I believe that that was in relation to the release of an Android/iOS app.

By the way. I cancelled my order on AliExpress from the seller BrightAudio Store. Orignally it said that it would be here on 4th of July but they didn't even ship it after one week, so I asked the seller and it turned to be a preorder and had to wait 3-5 weeks.

I hate when they lie about the stock, so I cancelled the order and bought it on Audiophonics.

Keep this in mind if you ordered it from that seller.

I ordered mine from Amazon (shop was Fanmusic, but the details said it was sold/shipped from Shenzhenaudio). Much easier to return if there's something wrong, and they don't charge until it's been shipped.

Nice!. Sadly the one that I can get from Amazon here says that it arrives mid august.

I have to correct my statement. There is probably a software bug. The EQ profile is not saved correctly. However, the power wirh the HE6SE is slightly disappointing. I expected more. There is definitely less power than on the L70. With EQ I have to go all the way to 0dB...
But don't get a wrong impression.
This beauty has a looot of power, and the bass is simply brutal with the HE6SE.
I just listen to very, very loud EDM.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, Topping has created an absolutely sensational product. Especially for the price, it totally degrades the competition!

l70 and dx5ii has the similar amount of power for balanced. According to the spec driving a HE6se may only differ 1db between the two devices.

Apparently only on paper, unfortunately. I have both devices here. With this track I get the drivers of the HE6SE to clip from -6dB with the L70. With the dx5ii I can't achieve the same volume/clipping even at 0dB. Unfortunately.

Dont use negative gain with eq then.
Maybe there is no need, and what you are missing is not power but gain.

For me it is obligatory to use the normalize function of the Neutron player, to bring the tracks to 0dB TPL.
Especially with the Mo-Fi masterings I would be lost. Some of them are at -12dB and quieter...
