Topping DX5 II

i think it’s fine. XLR outputs only have 1.3uV noise so won’t cause issues. In this case higher output voltage is better.
I often point this out but..here it goes again. Not all gear want 5v:ish voltage input. It'll clip.

Just turn down the volume. It’s very simple. You shouldn’t listen that loud either. On the other hand, studio equipments(such as studio monitors) usually require higher output.

Properly designed input will have diodes to clamp the voltage so it won’t damage the equipment.

Hey folks,

I read all the 24 pages and ordered the WHITE box yesterday through their own shop. I am very excited about this device tbh.

Now my question: when I read the manual correctly, I have the option to either connect a pair of active speakers or a pair of passive speakers through XLR, right?

It's not loud, you set the volume with the amplifier. The DAC performs the best the higher it goes. The problem as usual is that the buyer can't exactly know how much to turn down the volume to get to 4v max. Which I need for TP RA3 for instance.

You know exactly how much to turn down. Just do the math. (How much dbs between 4 and 5 volts). Some websites have online calculator.

Yes dac performs better the higher it goes because you have greater SNR. But SNR doesn’t matter in your case, if your amp’s input noise is greater than DAC noise. If you don’t hear noise when connecting amp to your dac then it’s a non issue.

Only actives directly. Passives need the DAC to be connected to an amplifier.

User manual up now for those interested in settings and so on
(Scroll down for english)

There are some neat features in there. One being the customisable knob press so it can be used not only to switch outputs as it does by default but also mute, dim the display or select gain.

Channel balance can be selected in 0.5 dB steps from +0.5 dB to +9.5 dB to the right or left. How that affects overall volume is unclear since such boosts could easily clip the DAC. Volume steps can be either 0.5 dB or 1 dB. While the former is more precise it is also more tedious and 0.5 dB volume difference is barely perceivable with music.

Individual outputs can be selected. Only the balanced headphone amplifier's XLR-4 and 4.4 mm are always simultaneously active.

The display can be set to turn off automatically after 30 s only showing the input.

The level meter on the default home screen can be disabled.

USB modes available are UAC2.0 and UAC1.0 and Bluetooth can be disabled.

The input signal can be used as an On/Off trigger.

Lastly, the filters appear to be labeled correctly.

Topping is taking its time with shipping, though. Apparently, the package still isn't on its way...
Mine, also ordered directly from Topping, hasn't shipped yet either.

Has anyone got a shipping notification yet?

Any US customers concerned about getting hammered for import taxes?

I ordered from Shenzen on the 10th in the evening UTC+8, they said they had only received a very small allotment from the factory and were expecting my order to ship late July.

mine should go out tomorrow

I got the same response from them, ordered it like 5 hours after it went live i think

Does the DX5 II do its volume control digitally so that you maintain perfect channel balance all throughout the range? (like the RME ADI-2 DAC FS)

Does Shenzhen charge your credit card at checkout or do they only charge your card when it is shipped (like Amazon, for instance)? That would determine, for me, whether to just order one right now or sometime in the next two weeks.

I think all DACs that have volume control operate this way.

My order got processed and charged a few hours afterwards, i thought it meant that they would ship it directly after. But guess i was wrong :)
With that info i would probably also wait and see who gets it in stock first

Not all: the RME ADI-2 DAC has a hybrid gain + digital attenuation that maximizes SINAD through all volume levels. An amazing feature.
See here.

Hmm... Yah, I love my ADI-2 DAC FS + DCA E3 but I'd like to get a smaller DAC + amp for use on a small table next to my sofa.

I bought an E1DA PowerDac V2.1 due to E1DA's great reputation, but it gets very very hot and drains my phone's battery like crazy.

So I thought of getting a plug-in DAC+amp that would connect to my phone via Bluetooth.

The DX5 II sounded like a great idea, but then again it's almost the same size as the ADI-2 DAC FS and hasn't been objectively reviewed yet.

Any other comparable devices I should be considering?

Thanks

Hello, I am new here but have been following this thread for a few days now.

I ordered the HE1000 stealth's (coming from Arya Stealths) and was looking for a dac/amp stack to upgrade from my IFI Zen V2 stack when I stumbled upon this dac/amp combo that checked all the boxes for me and what I wanted. Seems like a step up in dac quality and the output power seems amazing especially given the price point! I was originally on the fence about the topping E70/L70 stack but was wondering if it would be worth the price.

Just by chance I placed my order from Shenzheaudio on June 10th at about 12:00 UTC (didn't even realize that was lunch day haha) but still haven't gotten any shipping info. I did reach out to them via email to see if I am stuck waiting till July 20th which would really suck, but it is what it is I guess. I was charged for my order on the 10th as well.
