Topping DX5 II

I was premature saying That my DX5 II was OK with the downgraded Firmware.
Yesterday after prolonged use(over 10 hours) of DX5 II with Firmware 2.14, playing audio I start hearing occasional clicks. At that point I turned Unit OFF for one minute and turned back ON, start playing audio and there was no more clicks.
Today Those clicks start showing up even quicker - about one hour.
I'm start thinking that my DX5 II is defective.
Now I start investigating my computer, hardware and operating system.

Try using your phone as the source, if you have the necessary USB-C adapter or cable.

Update:
So far I upgraded: Motherboard BIOS to the latest version, Operating system, replaced USB cable and switched USB connection from USB 3 to USB 2.
I keep playing different media for at list 6 Hours - don't hear any audio abnormality's yet.

Update:
another 5 hour pass - still no problem with audio.

Hello, my DX5 II is dead. I only have response from UART0 (pin71 Sygwit Processor):
<CONNECTED>
system clock:150000000
1646
UID OK!

Nothing else.

Main 15V is clean, however there are two 5V marked pads - a pad near 15V block has 0,98V, the other one has 4,40V and after a diode goes to 5 pin lowdrop reg with 4,08V on it's input and finally 3,3V on output. Other voltages are not present except on 11.8V pad on the other side near bar code label. Display is black all the way. Tried holding down pressed encoder wheel during turn on, no change...

Hi guys, I'm choosing between the dx1 II and the dx5 II. I'm only interested in listening to music on a computer, mostly through a balanced headphone output. My headphones are hifiman edition XV and XS. Is it worth overpaying for the dx5, or do they sound about the same? If there is a difference, could you describe what it is: the stage, the bass, the separation of instruments. I heard that the dx5 II had problems with balanced connectivity, besides, the dx 1 II is powered only by USB, which is a plus for me. But if the dx5 noticeably wins in sound, I'm ready to choose it.

It start with "ZDPT tPT".

Both will sound 100% the same. What you are paying more for is the features, nothing more.

It all depends on how much space you want to occupy on the desk. Both will sound great, and I think you will do well with either device.

I would not be so worried about the 4.4mm connection on the DX5 II. There have been two HW revisions since launch, and v0.16 uses a different balanced board than the OG (v0.15), likely to address those reports.

The size difference is really not that big.
If you don't need mic input and can spend a bit more money I would go with dx5ii and be done.

*** THE UPDATE BORKED MY DX5 II ***

So it's stuck in DFU (version V2.51) mode. I tried turning off the DX5 II, disconnecting the power and leaving it for a few minutes, it still boots straight to DFU (I am not holding the multi-function knob). Explorer also pops up on Windows showing the OK file for the previous version of the firmware...

It won't let me upload the old firmware file (.topping file) in this state. Any ideas what to try next?

Are you able to update the original way (downloading the folder, dragging the file into the DX5 II "drive")?

Not initially, no. However, I fully rebooted my PC, switched on the DX5 II and I was able to drop the DX5 II FW2_51.Topping file on the Explorer window. The DX5 II then installed the firmware and rebooted automatically. It seems to be working OK now.

I am debating if I should try the upgrade again. I am wondering if the Topping.Home windows helper was the issue and it needs a reboot for it to work properly.

OK, it worked this time...

I suggest that anyone updating with Topping.Home and the updated helper app, reboots after installing the new helper, before attempting the firmware upgrade.

I am guessing it was the helper that caused that.
