New here but just wanted to report some findings about and pre-warn some people to make it easier since I know this device has been really rough overall:

1. For me, on the 6.35 mm, certain distortion that popped up when listening to music that peaks are now gone. So it may possibly fix distortion problems overall. Would appreciate if anyone else can also verify this for 4.4 mm

2. Topping Tune, for me at least, is kinda dead, because the past issue of the PEQ on the TOPPING TUNE app not really synchronizing with the device is back, leading me to assume that all my PEQ are gone. BUT, essentially the web home support basically replaces TOPPING TUNE and more, and you will see all your PEQ there. So for those having problem with Topping Tune, check the web home app, I had backups of my EQ profiles anyway but check the home webpage if you wanna check your PEQ, don't necessarily rush to the hardware reset like I did, it was kinda unnecessary.

I would argue that that is false.

There are known compatibility issues between the two apps right now, and Topping is suggesting that you stick with the Home web control (and I suspect the Home mobile app) for now. This was their response when I reported the issue:

"Thank you for documenting this interaction between the Home Web Control Center, TOPPING Tune V1.16, and the DX5 II. Currently, there may be some incompatibility issues between the Web EQ configuration and the Topping Tune configuration. Therefore, we currently recommend configuring only on the Web platform. We will improve this in the future. Thank you for your feedback!"

Using only one source - MacOS - and one wired headset (with DX1 II), I skipped the Topping Home / Tune all together after having added the profiles I want to the dac. Will revisit when they have developed it further.

Does it play sound? If not…

Try these in order, power cycle with switch in the rear, try another USB port on your PC (sometimes Windows USB stops recognizing a device until you move it), finally factory reset the DAC. Mind you the last option will remove everything.

It play the sound.
I try that - nothing works. I suspect the new firmware is the culprit. When trying create or import PEQ under User config i got error pop up "Machine not connected". Is there a way to downgrade firmware ? Also I sent e-mail to Topping support. Every thing was working fine until I decide to upgrade.

Topping has the previous two FWs in the Downloads section if you go through the DX5 II product page. You should be able to re-flash with the previous FW via the usual method.

Weird. Try re-downloading a previous FW because you should be able to just go into DFU mode, and install any FW version.

can't find old firmware in Topping website. Web app is working, but I would like to use Topping Tune.

Looks like they removed the older FWs (they were there just the other day).

Honestly, the Home Web Control Centre is way better than Topping Tune because you can change your device settings, upload/create your PEQ filters, update FW, etc... and it's platform agnostic.

I have previous versions, when I Try downgrade i got message on DX5 II screen "Firmware damage".

I get the same for 2.39 and 2.31 I still had on my hard disc. It installs 2.46 afterwards just fine and remembers the settings from before.

So reading between the “posts” it would seem you can’t revert firmware from 2.46.

That would be an issue for me as after 2.31 the firmware broke for me on my Nvidia Shield TV. I’ve been working with Topping to figure out. They sent me an internal 2.32 version and that’s where the problem was introduced. Hopefully they figure it out.

Has anybody else been successful getting Topping Tune to work on 2.46? Or is that broken after update?

They must have changed things with this FW because I know someone here reverted back to 2.31 from 2.39, and I've certainly done it with a previous FW.

I reverted. But you can’t do it on Win 7. You can on Win 10 and newer. My Win 7 media center used to work, but now I have drag out the laptop.

Prior to 2.31 Win 7 worked for firmware, but not Topping Tune.

There's definitely some compatibility issues with Topping Tune right now, and Topping recommends using the Home web control centre instead to avoid such issues. The Home web app is so much better than Topping Tune anyway, and I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to phase it out.

I don’t have desire to have an internet requirement to program my DAC. On plus side it does work on Win 7. I get that you should use one or the other at the same time, but I would prefer the option of no connectivity and an app under my control.
