You are on a Mac, right? It deleted my target curves, and source FRs again. None of the PEQ profiles were affected (just like the last time), though, so that's good. I will probably e-mail Topping about that.

I clearly misread. I realize now that you're recommending they change the option in TT to shut it down when closing the window. Apologies. That's what happens when I haven't had enough coffee to fully wake myself up
When you buy from a third-party seller on Amazon Marketplace:
- Amazon only facilitates the transaction but isn't the actual buyer or seller.
- The sales contract is exclusively between you (the buyer) and the third-party seller.
- Amazon isn't a party to this contract.
After checking the item and the system, and since the item is defective, you can keep the item and we will arrange the full refund for you and you don't have to return the item, Is that okay?
since the return fees will be high. I've requested a refund without return as an exception and they approved that.
OK, so, because my purchase was through a third-party seller through Amazon (Shenzenaudio DE Store, which is operated by leiyinaudio.com), there was no return option or anything on my order history on Amazon. The 30 day return window had long expired and the help pages and the chatbot directed me back to the A-to-z Guarantee page where you're told that:
So, last Friday, I contacted the international seller Shenzenaudio via e-mail and told them about my defective DX5 II. They took my description of the issue and said they would get feedback from a technician and get back to me. Today (Monday), after not getting feedback (yes yes it was a weekend, but still), I tried the Amazon chatbot again, but this time I pressed the right buttons and got to speak to an actual assistant.
The whole interaction then took literally 10 minutes max. I told him I purchased DX5 II in December and that now the unit was defective and that I wanted to know how to proceed, expecting him to tell me that due to third-party seller I should contact the seller directly etc. But he asked for a minute to check instead. He then came back and asked for another minute as he was checking with "another team". He then came back with a link and asked me to upload a picture of the unit, so I did. And after another minute he came back and said this:
I was shocked. They will refund me the full price, and I can keep the brick, which means I have spare parts now.
When I asked him why they wanted me to keep it, he said:
I don't know if the "other team" was Shenzenaudio he was speaking to, but man am I happy that I went through Amazon. What an amazing support experience.
You shouldn't repeatedly plug headphones into the 4.4mm port. The 4.4mm balanced output breaks easily and causes the device to short-circuit. It’s a problem that affects all of them (presumably). My DX5 Mk2 died after about 2 weeks of light use, smoke free climate controlled. Returning to Amazon. I really liked it while it was alive. Won't even power on now.

I always recommend to buy on Amazon and that Amazon is involved in the process if not as seller than at least for shipment.OK, so, because my purchase was through a third-party seller through Amazon (Shenzenaudio DE Store, which is operated by leiyinaudio.com), there was no return option or anything on my order history on Amazon. You need a long allen key according to this post:Now that I have a brick, I thought I might as well take some pictures of it.
However, this is as far as I got. There is this ribbon cable connecting the board to the display, preventing me from pulling the board out.
Does anyone that has already disassembled these once have an idea how to approach this? Maybe from the front instead, but I have no idea how to get the front section off.

While I wait for my 15cm long 2mm Allen key to arrive, so that I can open my brick and stick my multimeter in it (not that I know how to use it, but it'll be fun), I was wondering if proper power regulation might be the main issue of the DX5 II, and if a DX1 II might be a better alternative for someone that just wants a DAC with PEQ, knowing that the DX1 II runs on less power, therefore cooler, and also isn't influenced by AC fluctuations as it takes its power from USB.

I did and it looks good on paper. You can compare the reviews, and decide whether the DX1 II is a better fit.

Topping DX1 II DAC & HP Amp Review
This is a review, listening tests and detailed measurements of the Topping DX1 II smart balanced DAC and headphone amplifier. It was sent to me by the company and is selling for US $113. The design is the somewhat familiar Topping mini desktop products. Surprisingly though, you now get...www.audiosciencereview.com

Topping DX5II Balanced DAC and Headphone Amp Review
This is a review, listening tests and detailed measurements of the Topping DX5 II Smart DAC and balanced headphone amplifier. It was sent to me by the company and costs US $299. The DX5II is beautiful to look at especially due to its very high contrast and bright display. Love the extra buttons...www.audiosciencereview.com

I'm just hesitant to get another DX5 II now until I manage to open this one up and check what actually went wrong with it. After 7 months of continuous use, always with the same headphone (and keeping it plugged in), and not even using the 4.4mm jack, the only variable I can imagine is an AC power related issue.
Maybe there was a surge and the unit has bad surge protection. If that's the case, then I'd know how to mitigate with the new one. But if it turns out to be a random component that just died (due to it running warm), then it'll be a gamble with the new one also.
Where can I check that? What is the HW revision of your DX5 II? Mine is 0.15, but I know there's a 0.16 revision because (I believe) they changed the 4.4mm jack component.
Where can I check that?
