Topping DX5 II

i'm on 2.1.4 just updated yesterday from 1.7.6. connected via USB to a usb hub (monitor Dell U2724DE), then my monitor to my mac using Thunderbolt 4. Actually after updating the stuttering / crackling sound went away. however now I have a new issue where after 5-10 minutes there's 1s where sound switched to my mac, then back to the topping after. it looks like its disconnected for 1s every 5-10 minutes weird

Things like this have happened before, won't take long before it pops up back again

The issue could be caused by the USB hub you're using (unless you've already tested for that), so I would check things with the DAC directly connected to the Mac. Next thing I would try is a different USB cable. I also had instances where the device disconnected, but it was resolved when I changed my USB cable (it was a USB-C to USB-B cable, I swapped it for a USB-A to USB-B cable with no issues since).

Yeah, there's no FW version up at all right now for the DX5 II, so they may have caught something.

I'm curious about the HID communication speed note because I am not familiar with what that means.

Excited about the Home app support, though, but I bet it comes with a few issues :cool:

yeah , i'm waiting also for Home App for the DX 5 II. Thats why I dowloaded the FW as soon as I swa it online. But now I'm not brave enough to test it :facepalm: - hoping that Topping put it back online soon.

As @Bleib mentioned, it's not the first time they've posted a FW, and removed it, so it's probably just fine. I get the concern, though.

V2.27 (June 23, 2026)

*Fixed: Status and volume display abnormalities after restoring factory settings in the app.

*Fixed: Display abnormalities related to app press-function settings.

*Fixed: Some press-function options could not be fully displayed in English and Japanese.

*Fixed: Some settings might not take effect immediately after importing PEQ L/R curves.

*Fixed: Filter import failure.

*Fixed: Importing filters from HOME could cause TUNE abnormalities.

*Fixed: Several known issues.

Edit: Installed. It kept all settings this time around

Unable to upgrade from 2.14 to latest firmware - after copying extracted file to root folder in DAC, it says UNKNOWN FILE.I was following standard and proper procedure, like always.
DAC continues to work normally, on 2.14 firmware.

Any thoughts? Anyone else had this problem?
 
Nothing similar. Make sure to copy the firmware file to the harddrive / SDD / USB-memory first and then to the DAC. Straight from the compressed file often results into problems

Possibly unknowlingly dragged the folder over instead of the file? Or a copy/paste that may have missed a letter from the file extension?

No, no :)
Just normal drag and drop of .topping file into root folder of DAC.
I updated firmwares before with the same procedure. Few days ago I updated normally to 2.14.
File is first uncompressed to Mac desktop and then dragged to DAC...

I had an issue first as well.

In 2.14 and previous versions, the file was always called "DX5 II FW2_14.Topping".

In 2.27, however, the file was somehow now called "DX5 II FW2.27\DX5 II FW2_27.Topping".

It looks like the folder name was embedded inside the filename. So I just renamed it manually to "DX5 II FW2_27.Topping" and then it worked.

That's not what it showed on my end. It was the same file name structure as v2.14, and all other FW updates.

Just making sure human error wasn't a factor. Could it be what Mutex experienced? I was not like that for me, so I had no issues updating the FW.
