Topping DX5 II

2.07 is stable for me. Maybe worth upgrading to that and skip 2.10 for whatever comes next (which is what I'm doing).

I updated from 1.93 to 2.07 - 2.10 the display crashed, and in Auto mode, it turns on after 30 sec. when playing in pause. I returned to 1.93.

Hey everyone, my DX5II just arrived today, came with the 2.07 firmware, just upgraded it to 2.10 just recently, and so far so good. Using this with my Neumann NDH 30 headphones, and soon, the Ananda Nanos.

In case you need emotional support for when you turn on your unit and nothing happens on 2.10, we're here for you :D

Just kidding. In case it happens, simply enter update mode and go back to 2.07.
 
I just received my unit a few days ago but still find I need to get the volume up quite a lot to get a good spl for my hd600. I was torn between this and the topping L70 that seemed like it might have more voltage capacity, but thought I'd check in case anyone else had settings suggestions that might be better for the hd600 than default? I have switched to using a balanced cable for higher vrms ability. I do like the convenience of the combo dac/amp!

Are you set to high gain? I think the default is low. If low that's the issue.

Don’t worry; as long as there’s enough headroom on the volume control and the amplifier isn’t distorting, there’s no problem with turning the volume up high.
 
Still on 1.78 here, safe to jump to 2.07? Mainly want to try the crossfeed. Skimmed the release notes but couldn't tell if there were any notable bug fixes besides the PEQ stuff.
 
With all the electrical problems, I wonder if some of these units are B stock or even counterfeit. Mine has been rock solid and I have done some silly things to it like using dodgy cables with wrong polarity and the relay switch saved the unit more than once and everything works perfectly same as day one now many months later.

Привет! Купил на Aliexpress в "Hifi guides Store" Topping DX 5-2 ещё в начале года. Хороший аппарат, всё нравится ....
Но стал трещать левый канал на высокой громкости как только начнётся бас.
Открыл спор. Ругался с 18.01.2026 по 15.03.2026 выполнял их безумные требования. Делал сброс настроек, обновлял прошивку( сейчас 2.10), подключал по BT, снимал видео наверное 10 раз, с различными наушниками. Результат не изменился.
Всего то хотел, чтобы они забрали свой бракованный аппарат с пересылкой за их счет.
Итог. И продавец и эксперт от Topping признали аппарат исправным, а звук который он воспроизводит великолепным.
Aliexpress согласился и решил, что Я должен возвратить его за свой счет, как обычный возврат не понравившегося товара, а это примерно треть стоимости Topping DX 5-2.
Я возмутился, плюнул в экран и послал их сами знаете куда! )
По этому теперь слушаю со звуком не более -20dB, а если есть бас -30dB и наслаждаюсь. )
Покупать или нет изделия Topping, а тем более на Aliexpress???
Делайте выводы сами. Возможно только мой аппарат с таким браком.

But the left channel started crackling at high volumes as soon as the bass kicked in.I opened a dispute. I argued with them from January 18, 2026, to March 15, 2026, and followed their insane demands. I reset the settings, updated the firmware (currently 2.10), connected via BT, and recorded video about 10 times with different headphones. The result remained unchanged. All I wanted was for them to take back their defective device and pay for shipping. Result: Both the seller and the Topping expert found the device to be functional and the sound it produces to be excellent. Aliexpress agreed and decided that I should return it at my own expense, as is the standard return policy for an unwanted item, which is about a third of the cost of the Topping DX 5-2. I got angry, spat at the screen, and told them to go away!So now I listen with the sound no more than -20 dB, and if there's bass, -30 dB, and I "enjoy" it. Should I buy Topping products, especially on Aliexpress??? Draw your own conclusions. It's possible that only my device has this defect. Проверяю на полном звуке. Потому,что их хваленое, супер мощное устройство еле может раскачать наушники 250 Ohm.
Зная китайцев, наивно ждать от них хоть слово правды. )))
Как вам звук? Прекрасный и достойный, как и эксперту Topping? Или всё же "немного" хрюкает и хрипит? )))

Брал в крупном магазине, не онлайн, на второй день началась абсолютно та же проблема. Сдал на диагностику, но пришлось ехать в итоге со своими планарами подтверждать проблему, так как с их наушниками проблема не проявлялась (полагаю, была именно по току, так как у меня двое планаров с низким сопротивлением). После подтверждения проблемы и сравнения с новым устройством заменили без проблем, новый работает без проблем больше месяца. В общем, компания доверия не вызывает, если и буду что-то их брать, то только с возможностью сразу сдать по гарантии без пересылки.

My opinion they just made it as cheap as possible and deny most warranty claims. There are plenty reviews and posts on various social media sites for this to sell big numbers and I guess they just decided to gamble, make a cheap product with nice design, great sound quality and various functions while keeping it's price below competition, not afraid to lose some fans.
 
Just a thought:
Can I protect the unit from overloading caused by DC by applying a steep high-pass filter at 20 Hz.
 
Received my and have put several hours of listening in. I spent some time using the Software to get the PEQ set up and it was fairly straightforward after viewing the available guide from topping. My experience so far has been great, with a great sound and plenty of power to drive my HD650

sorry to hear about your experience but that is expected when you buy from Aliexpress - after sale support is basically non existent
once I did not receive my item, and the tracking shows clearly it was delivered in a different country, but they still closed the dispute
so I only buy things that I don't need warranty for.
 
Just received a refurbished/open-box DX5 II (directly from Topping), still need to power it up for the first time... and also spotted the new firmware v2.14: https://www.toppingaudio.com/download/dx5-ii-version-v2-14-firmware-update

*Fixed: No audio output when switching sampling rates in NetEase Cloud exclusive mode
*Fixed: Several known issues
 
You can install it. It didn't explode, it works! )))
Even the menu settings were intact.
But the left channel still crackles in the bass.
