Topping DX5 II

Fosi ZH3 is pretty good if you don't need PEQ or crossfeed

this looks good but will it break shut off with 12 ohm planars ?
Oh, no idea. Best to ask here:

any alternatives to DX5 ? because there arent any in my country
If you're looking for something cheap, assuming you don't have ridiculously power hungry headphones, I actually used the Fiio KA17 THX for a while and found it very handy. It has built in PEQ via the Android/iOS app as well.

I just had an interesting case with my unit.

tl;dr: I think it's FW 2.10 related.

I updated FW to 2.10 shortly after it released. Worked fine. Today however, I turned on my DX5 II, but nothing happened. Screen was black, no amp *click*, nothing. I turned the unit off and tried to enter FW patch mode. Nothing again.

OK, I thought. Unit is dead.

I tried a couple more times, then unplugged it fully for a couple of minutes. Turned it on. Still nothing. Tried FW update mode again, and this time it worked! Went back to normal mode, but still nothing. Went back to FW update mode, and this time downgraded to FW 2.07. Everything works again.

I think I'm gonna stick with 2.07 for now :D

I think I'll do the same because I also had a little problem with the new FW ...

Hello everyone - Hoping somebody can help me:
I just can't make the DX5 ii show up in Topping Tune. I used the supplied USB-A to USB-B cable and about 3 or 4 different hubs and adapters. Tried with 2 different Apple laptops and 1 PC. Played around with settings, etc. Tried a different cable today. Upgraded to the latest firmware for the DX5 ii - all to no success. I know the DX5 II is properly connected since I can listen to music, and the Topping Tune software also reacts when I plug it in (the words "DeviceEQ:OFF" or DeviceEQ:ENABLED appear when plugged in), but it won't show up as DX5 ii in the lower left corner no matter what I do.

Any tips? Could it be a faulty unit? I am close to sending it back and trying my luck with a new one. Thanks!

Can you lock an EQ preset to a specific output, like headphone out?
If you set it to select an individual outputs, you can assign a preset EQ curve that will be associated with each output. For example I use single ended with my IEM curve and balanced with my headphone curve.

If you run all the outputs at the same time you get just one curve that applies to everything.

You can’t have multiple outputs at the same time with different EQ curves.

Does anyone know in headphone profiles import properly from say Peace (AutoEQ) for headphone models, and if these are applied at the hardware level?
Seems to be, according to the audio device control panel (which still shows the correct sample rate, with Tidal Exclusive mode on). Most if not all headphones still benefit from EQ (without trying to start up anything, but monitors are just plug in and go).

Edit: The tight bastards opted for a 3.5mm optical instead of toslink, I've got one somewhere.. This is how you can tell they have started from a PC soundcard!

Once I'm a bit used to the sound I wouldn't mind swapping the Adi2FS seeing how much better it is :). Maybe fairly minimal now (fk it will do it now, i think there is a bit more to it)..
I'm still quite impressed assuming the unit from AliExpress is legit (I'm assured it is and wasn't too cheap), technically and on paper better than the iFi Zen Dac, not sure if it's more fun, but i'm using that one at work now anyway with Yuin PK1 buds. Bring back 2008 haha. Wasn't worth selling it really.

Yeah the topping probably sounds 70-80% as good as the RME. Specs on paper are fine but you can't fake it. Less dynamics and the bass and treble control is awesome on the adi2.

good enough if you get for 200 US.

As this is placebo anyway, I dare to say that the DX5 II sound 100% better. ;)
Also whatever PC sound card they crammed into my unit seems to use a full size TOSLINK socket and not the mini 3.5mm version.

Can you set it up on the PC then leave it at that?
A good setup should sound good with flat EQ.
What when you rotate through many new headphones.

Even when I have my presets set depending on my mood and music I tend to add more bass from time to time - think of it like a tone control.

Snorher option could be letting user set up PEQ via interface on the unit itself.
Less comfortable but it would be very welcomed.
