Topping DX5 II

Just to add a bit to what @Berwhale said -- the new cross feed feature is also limited to 48kHz, so if you decide to use cross feed as well, the DSP being limited to 192kHz is moot.
I think the massive loss of volume is a bigger issue with the cross-feed function, unless Topping have fixed this since I tried it out.

There haven't been any updates since then, so I doubt that they have. I'm waiting on a fix for settings not saving when it goes into standby mode.

I kinda wanted a DAC/amp combo for a cleaner desk but with the issues people have had I might just get an L50 to use with my old D30. My current headphones (VSX IM1) and their DSP (on PC) max out my original JDS Atom when listening to Jazz.

FYI, if you keep using your D30's RCA output like before, then the L50 will play exactly as loud as your Atom Amp as both have around 13dB gain in High gain.

A meaningful bump in volume would only come if your switch to the D30's XLR output with the L50's matching TRS input as the E30 will send a 50% louder Line signal that way.

If you're listening to locally stored tracks, I'd recommend you check their dBTP levels and make sure that they're close to 0dBTP.

Anything below that will waste headroom and make playback quieter with no upside.

I see, that makes sense. Listed specs don't always paint the full picture across inputs.

Most of the time the Atom is fine. I just want more headroom and want to avoid the top of the gain knob. My E50 is feeding my sub and speakers through Dirac Live room correction. I'd much rather switch outputs in windows and not have to switch which DAC each DSP program is using.

Or I could get a MiniDSP Flex (Bal) and get a real 2.1 crossover (not just LPF) and an L50 with the E50. I find it wild that the Flex still doesn't have competiton. (I also don't want to use Voice Meter as the latency isn't good for gaming).

If the DX5II had a crossover function I'd buy it right now and just run the USB input for the speakers and optical for the headphones. I can't be the only one with these use cases and "needs". Even without the crossover it would be nice.

Hello, I am looking to replace my E30/L30 combo with the DX5II for my Hifiman Edition XV.

I am using this EQ from UnheardLabs, is that something that can be set with the built in PEQ on this unit?
Preamp: -4.0 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 30 Hz Gain 4.0 dB Q 0.500
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 170 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 2.000
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 400 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 2.500
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 700 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 1.500
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 1700 Hz Gain 3.0 dB Q 1.600
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 16500 Hz Gain 3.0 dB Q 1.000

Also, which would be the preferred connector to use, 4-pin XLR or 4.4mm balanced?

Thank you folks!

Yes...

(I copied the PEQ settings from your post into a .txt file and imported directly into Topping Tune).

They are connected the same inside the DX5 II and perform the same. Which one you use depends on which cable you have (I use 4.4mm because my HD 660 S came with a 4.4mm cable and there are zero reasons to change it).

On Tidal, the new tracks all stream at "max" and the cross-feed doesn't work anyway, so I am not missing it much on new music (and they tend to be mixed very well to begin with). The old stuff, the cross-feed really does make a difference, so I just crank up the amp. All in all, turns out to just be a minor nuisance for me. For how good this combo amp sounds and with all the features like PEQ, I haven't found anything even remotely close to it at around the same price point or even a bit more.

Hey all.
How is the dx5ii looking at DC protection and hypex amplifiers?
Has it been fixed with the DC detect sense options? Any way to test?

The DC protection has always worked on mine and withstood some of my own misuse. If you are going to use this only as a DAC with another amp, might look at D50 III and save a little money.

Ok
I already have a dx5ii. Just wondering for buying a new amp

DC protection is for Headphones
Your Hypex is for your speakers i guess?
I would pair the DX5 with a matching Mini 300 Amp

Hello, I'm trying to update the firmware on my Topping DX5 II. When I try to copy the firmware file, it says the file is too large for the target system. The firmware file itself is 1.79 MB. What should I do?

How do you access the PEQ function? Is it a Windows app only? I guess we're screwed if we use Linux.
Topping Tune is currently available for Windows and macOS.

An App for iOS and Android exists as well, but currently only supports the E50II.

DX5II support will be added at some point via firmware update, as the Topping Home App already contains the code for it.

That's great. I don't think Fedora could access the DAC even by running their app through Wine.

I’ve got this combo. They are both great, but the not exactly matching. The mini300 is a bit deeper and more narrow. Can still stack them, but it isn’t exactly neat.

We need a Topping mini500 with a case to match the DX5 II (they can keep the insides the same as the mini300 :))
