Topping DX5 II

Why is channel balance typically common with speakers? Is it because of the different acoustics from left to right in a room?
Correct.

Having speakers at home seems to be significantly more challenging to set up than headphones. I believe placement is crucial, as acoustic considerations also play a role.
It's about as easy to get speakers to play as headphones. Getting speakers to play well is significantly more challenging though.

I can see there is a new DAC from Topping
There’s a mention of the Topping Home App alongside the regular Topping Tune. Is it a new application? If so, I’m curious to know if it will be compatible with the DX5 II.
I couldn't find anything about this application.

E50 II works seamlessly with the TOPPING Home app, bringing all essential control functions directly to your smartphone. You can switch inputs and outputs, tailor EQ settings, adjust volume, and manage the entire playback chain with ease. Real-time control and centralized tuning free your listening experience from spatial limitations and make high-quality audio more accessible than ever.

I thought the same and hope this expands to DX5 II and D900, and all their DSP DACs coming next.

So, I just got my DX5 II today and have installed Topping Tune.

Is there a best practice approach in how to acquire and import correct EQ filter values to approach Harman FR?

Headphone is DT 990 Pro X.

I was checking this site. But I'm not sure if this is the best source to look for.

Go to this page and find your headphone.

In your case it would be this file:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/trhf...ro-X.pdf?rlkey=gi19j6qsiy0k909921abehiny&dl=0

Enter the values in the bottom left table into Topping Tune. Also adding the in preamp gain from the bottom center which is -5.5. Lastly bottom right has the bands you can adjust to your liking.

Looks like EQ does wonders for this headphone.

OMG, thank you! Exactly what I was looking for! :)

This is my first proper headphone amp, and I'm so happy with it! What a powerful built-in EQ this has.

Below the result of the EQ setup... (I couldn't find a place to apply the values of the BW column)

An update for anyone who is also experiencing the same issues of output imbalance when using HPA output (Front output: 6.3 and 4.4 outputs)

These are the steps I've used to confirm the issue:
Using HPA outputs, a youtube playback of a single frequency (I found my unit clipping at 90-120hz but chose a video that is only at 100hz).
I increased the volume to find the clipping at -20db on high gain. I then Used a multimeter on one of the outputs and is registering as .34v and the other is at .58v

Topping audio has confirmed that this really is a manufacturing defect and will need to be returned.

Unfortunately for my case, I purchased my unit in another country. Thankfully the retailer agreed to receive/return the product.

Which hw(!) revision do you have?

When I read about problems people have with the DX5II, I think either I'm lucky or everything ahead of me. Actually, since the last update, my DX5 II has been working flawlessly.

I have been running test FW since the end of November because I found that pretty major hissing issue. I'm not sure if/when they plan on formally releasing a new FW, but I can say the hiss issue is fixed (though I have found a few others that they've mostly addressed that I won't mention because they aren't occurring in the currently-released FW).

Can you tell why you know that is the case? Mine says v0.15

That's the HW version it's been for everyone since day one.

Topping does not release the new firmware officially ...... it is possible that they have so many fixes that the next one will be version 2.0:)

Topping engineers sent me another firmware beta (1.90). This time, it finally fixes the Gain problem when switching to HPA BAL or SE.

Have you done any long listening sessions on that FW?

I'm asking because I'm on a test version of v1.88, and there's an issue that maybe you can verify for me since we're both not on official FWs (it would also help if you encountered the same thing to mention it to them as well). You can PM me to not cause any undue panic about issues people wouldn't be encountering here.
