Topping DX5 II

I wonder if this version has been released with debugging enabled (which would usually be a mistake, rather than something nefarious). I see the same jump for the versions of Setup that I kept...

FWIW - I have submitted the screen grab above to Topping and asked if the 5x increase in size is expected.
It appears they added a bunch of data, but might not have turned it on.

There are directories in the installed location that have headset curves, speaker curves, target curves and the like.

It's seems exactly what you'd expect given the source. There is no point in cluttering our storage with it or in Topping paying the bandwidth to serve it until they implement it, but here we are. Of course it would be nice if basic PEQ worked before you try to add features to it. You know, crawl before you walk before you run.

Suppose I don’t want to mess with Topping Tune at all until its fully baked. Which FW version would be best in this case? Latest?

I haven't noticed any problems with the latest versions, except that Topping Tune takes longer to load.

I use this on a Ryzen 7700x with a ripping fast SSD and it's noticeably slower to load compared to the prior versions.

Has anyone had their DX5 II just not turn on / wake up? But then work just fine after a flip of the rear power switch off then on again, Odd behavior and seems to happen at random and intermittent enough to be annoying. was hoping firmware updates may address this but so far nope. Otherwise i do like the unit.

This has never happened to me, probably because I always use the rear switch. If you don't do this, the DX5 will still work. Shine a flashlight on the display after turning it off with the remote control, and you'll see for yourself.

Hopefully this still can be fixed with a firmware update

Ok I joined the club. My device came preloaded with 1.76 and it works so I’m not going to downgrade. Everything seems fine except I can’t seem to get the HPA and Line Outs to work simultaneously when output is set to ALL. LO ALL outputs but then of course no HPA. My use case is I have analog VU meters that I want to use from the RCA out while listening to balanced headphone out. Any ideas?

Firmware for this device is so hit or miss that you may want to try one of the earlier firmware simply because the bugs are so random that it may actually enable the functionality you want. However, it may be possible you can only pick one or the other sets of outputs. Perhaps somebody here on a different firmware version that uses both simultaneously can confirm.

I can confirm this works on firmware 1.78.

I'm using LO RCA as well as HPA Balanced.
This ALL Output option is not something I use on the regular but it's good to know that it does in fact work simultaneously, at least with this firmware.

Anyone is having stutter/jitter issues in S/PDIF (Optical)? Regardless if I use type 1 or 2, I will get small and very short cracking sound every few minutes or so, as if the DAC is extremely sensitive to jitter. S/PDIF is coming from an Asus X870E Strix motherboard Realtek card. My other DAC don't do that in the same environnement (Sabaj D5).

Not a cable issue (tried with different cables). My unit came with FW 1.76 and I upgraded to 1.78, didn't solve the problem.

No issue in USB. And while I know I could use USB, it's not practical in my current environnement and I shouldn't even have to compromise on not using Optical ever if it's a product defect.

Re: Topping Tune 1.14. I use 3 PEQ filters for Speakers, SE HP, and Bal HP. Prior to TT 1.14, if I unplugged the DX5 ii I would lose the PEQ settings (-12dB). However, if I used the remote to turn off the DX5 ii, the PEQ settings remained. I've just downloaded TT 1.14. I tried unplugging the DX5 ii, waiting, then turning it back on, then starting TT 1.14.
The PEQ filters remain as I set them. I use a smart power strip and have a command in google home to turn on both the DX5 ii and my amp. I wasn't able to use it before (I'd lose the filter settings), but now everything works. So now, the DX5 ii does everything I want it to do.

I am yet another DX5 II user with a faulty unit after 2 weeks. The 4.4mm jack began to have intensive distortion in the left channel. Other outputs were unaffected. And, if anyone was wondering if the SJY Carbons can be driven with DX5 II? It's no problem.

Same thing happened to me. Only had for a few days and the left channel starting getting distortion on both XLR and 4.4mm.

I received a new device from the seller to replace the one that had similar distortions at 4.4 mm. It has a later production date (July 2025, while the defective device was from June 2025) and so far has no sound defects.

Where did you find the production code and how did you identify the date?

For some Topping audio equipment models, the manufacturing date can be determined by the first four digits of the serial number. For example, for my Topping DX5 II, the date can be found by the number 2507—that's July 2025.

I see alot of users on reddit with this problem thats why i bought the Fiio K13 and not the DX5II. A lot of hardware and software issues with the DX5II.
