Topping DX5 II

I have both units, what you do want to know?
I'd like to ask something if you don't mind. As a headphone user nearly exclusively, is the crossfeed function worth the premium price? Does it benefit modern recordings much? Seems like it'd be a game changer for stuff like old Beatles albums. I haven't found anyway to add crossfeed with Apple Music on iOS devices so only way I've seen is to do it through the dac/amp.

If you have APO/Peace EQ on a computer, you can try it out for free. I did that because I was wondering the same thing, even considering the RME. Personally I found crossfeed to be a subtle change, though others claim it to be transformative. So it might work for you.
In the end I went for Topping DX5 ii because it was good value, and I could use the APO/Peace crossfeed for when I watch movies late at night. I didn’t think it was worth the extra $$ for the RME just for crossfeed because I can live without it the subtle change when I listen to sources other than my pc

Crossfeed is also available on the Qudelix 5K and Neutron DAC V1 ;)

Which one do you prefer soundwise?

At higher volumes with some headphones I prefer DX5 as it has more power, with some headphones RME ran out of steam and sound became shrill. At lower volumes I'm 99% sure I wont be able to spot any difference. If anything it would be minimal.
Now I changed headphones and I'm sure even RME would be able to drive them without problem to my normal listening levels, but you know... it's nice to have some headroom

That's a hard one, I mean I like crossfeed with some music (even mono from time to time) but in a long run I was not using it.
I'm not sure why but I just didn't had desire to turn on and off every time I switch the track - call me lazy
So RME is packed for now and waiting for my full system to happen to drive power amplifiers - auto reference voltage seems to be very good feature for this user case.

Anyone with an RME ADI-2 FS compare it to this DX5-II?
I can't compare, as I don't own the DX5. I can't imagine there are any differences sound wise. After following this thread though, the main difference looks to be that the RME is rock solid in terms of firmware and functionality. It works correctly with zero faults, all of the time. In the UK at least it comes with a solid 5 year warranty, that the manufacturer stands behind. There's a material price difference, so you need to weigh that up. For me, it was worth paying for, I won't need to buy another DAC.

With fw 1.76 and toppin tune 1.09 , now I can save peq by 0.1db, that's briliiant !
I'm glad.
Here i cannot choose EQ that I want to... I meam the screen on device shows only one eq but I have two.
Selecting in app changes EQ - I cen hear that but screen of the device shows that first EQ profile is selected.

Number of problems with Topping tune and PEQ is just way too much.

When you delete EQ profile, and add a new one and name it the same = it seems to mess with the software.

Good to see Topping responding to people's issues and updating the FW/app. Would have been better to have it covered at the initial release, though.

My experience with Topping Tune 1.09 and the 1.76 firmware has not been pleasant. The +12dB bug absolutely is not just in Topping Tune. It uploaded the incorrect PEQ profiles to my device and caused easily audible clipping.

I wasted 1.5 hours and reverted back to 1.08 and firmware 1.72. By far my worst experience with the device to date.
I use my DX5 ii for PC Streaming, but also for BT from my phone & TV sound via optical. Currently I have to turn on my PC, delete an PEQ filters on the DX5, download manual filters, being sure to not turn off either the PC or the DX5. I hope Topping fixes this soon. As you say 1.08 & 1.72 didn't have this problem.
I didn't save the priors, are they available?
Thanks, John

Not as far as I know. I have the firmware file saved. DM me with your email and I can mail it to you. I have 1.08 saved as well, but it's quite large and likely not mailable. My expectation is the problem is the firmware and not Topping Tune. However, I was so frustrated at that point I just reverted both as I wanted to be done.

Right, Thanks!, I'll wait for Topping to do something...but I'll remember to save copies!

Has anyone tried setting PEQ for XLR with low frequencies filtered out
Then the RCA outputs are run for subwoofer output?

I think it will apply the same PEQ to both outputs or none at all. The PEQ memory can follow the 'output' and LO SE, LO BAL and LO ALL are 3 separate 'outputs' from this perspective.
