Topping DX5 II

As a user of Topping Tune and PEQ I would beg to differ.
I have never had any problems with Topping Tune and PEQ with any firmware version since V1.67. I use Topping Tune for macOS. There must be other variables involved, and not necessarily bugs on Topping's part. I have read about some people who changed PCs and no longer had any problems.

There are at least three of us that post here with issues on the current firmware. It’s annoying, but I bought the device knowing about them.

I’m not sure how it isn’t the fault of the company that produces the device, the firmware and software to communicate with the device.

Are we talking about 3 cases out of how many sold? Without the numbers, it's impossible to compile statistics or get a complete and accurate picture of the situation.

About the firmware issues, they have all been fixed.

About the serial numbers, there's no serial number on the label on the bottom of the DX5 II. Maybe on the box?

In any case, they all seem to be power supply failures since they no longer turn on. It could be the internal AC-DC shown here in the photo. It's just my guess.
It's manufactured by ATAZ Guangzhou Science & Technology Co., Ltd.

This is the price you pay for having an internal power supply. With an external power supply it would have been easy to replace it or even upgrade to a better one, such as the linear power supplies also produced by Topping (P50).

My device's power supplies are fine, but the processor won't start. I don't know what's wrong with other people, but something tells me it's the same issue. A remote power supply is completely absurd and inconvenient in almost any similar device (in my opinion). Let's also make the processor remote – it'll be easier to replace if necessary!
The serial number is on the device body and on the box.

For anyone that had the unit fail to power on or the screen go black - I had this issue a couple of weeks ago and fixed it fairly simply.

I had only been in possesion of my DX5II for about two weeks and it was still running an old firmware version with which it was shipped. It decided to fail while i was switching outputs. The screen went completely black and cycling the power didn't help.

The fix was to put the unit into DFU mode and flash the latest firmware.
DFU mode is enabled by pushing the main control knob while switching on the power at the rear. The screen comes up showing 'DFU' and the current firmware version. You can then flash the new firmware in the normal manner by attaching a computer by USB and dropping the firmware file into the USB folder.

I suspect there was an issue with firmware that was on my shipped unit that only causes issues under rare circumstances. I have used my unit extensively since with the newer firmware and it has been very solid.

I have no regrets buying the DXII. Other Topping hardware I have owned has been very dependable.

I was going to buy a 2nd unit after my 1st defective one, but seems that I won't.
It's really a shame that a device with such potential got so many issues.
Why have you not sent it back to the seller you got your device from as an guarantee case?

@dimon0869 same question to you.

And 2 of the 3 have not even tried to replace/repair their devices as an warranty case. Only one sent it back to China where he got it from. The reasons behind this type of beheaviour are throwing up some questions.

Im not here to protect Topping or saying that there cannot be any quality issues with their devices and to be honest the soldering quality doesnt look good at all on the DX5II. But when you start to dig deeper in this type of cases you will find out, that in many cases the reasons behind those fails is the handling of the users themselfs.

You should be careful with "news" like that, those can be fake.

Are you a manufacturer or a representative of a manufacturer?
I'm a DX5 II user. I've had no problems with it for two weeks now, only positive experiences. But I'm very concerned about reports of problems with this device, so I want to understand if there really is a bad batch of DX5 IIs, and if my device is included in this risky batch.

Do you think I'm stupid? It no longer enters boot mode, and its processor won't start.

Because the seller refused to pay for shipping and generally wanted to rip me off, and sending the device by mail would have cost me almost as much as a new device.

DX5 II firmware ultimate version -> coupon for the purchase of another DAC that fully works :D

Thankfully I haven’t had any issues with my unit (TT 1.06, FW 1.67 - I have not updated). I’m not sure if I’m lucky or others commenting here are unlucky. Without any decent data, hard to say how systemic these issues are.
This product seems to be selling a lot based on a number of dealers having fairly long pre-order wait times.
So, going by the handful of people having serious here maybe the problems are limited. Hard to say either way. But reading this thread is both fun and frightening for me. Though, must say I’m still very happy with my unit.

But I've been assured by others that the PEQ has no problems!

It might be a very rare issue that occurs when only a very particular set of curcumstances happen that most users will never experience.

yep works just fine under wine (im on arch with wine 10.14), the driver install fails (of course) but Topping Tune launches, sees the devices and lets me manage peq ... not bad at all :)
From what i can see it's a QT app, so they could just build a linux native if they wanted ...
@gyordanov : I can launch the app but it doesn't see the device (Ubuntu/Wine). Did you do any tricks initially?
