Topping DX5 II

Had that error yesterday. Seems to be present with the the new Topping Tune. I didn't have it with the prior release.

I believe some combination of power off and/or deletions managed to clear it without a factory reset. At one point I also managed to have all the PEQ curves set back to the factory defaults. It took me 30 minutes to get 9 curves that I already had saved into the device.

PEQ is not exactly ready for Prime Time on this device.

Yp did factory reset with deleting all EQ profiles and it did help

Toping Tune is full of bugs, it changed the headphone frequency settings many times on its own, after updating to the new version, the app sometimes won't turn on... I'm afraid this isn't a software issue but a hardware

I think that if this continues we will soon be able to do a comedy sketch with this DAC...

Has anyone heard both the dx5 II and the RME ADI 2 and can give their thoughts? I want to go straight in with an end game HP amp to pair with HD800S and wondered if the RME is worth the extra cost?

Both have transparent headphone amps, so there is no difference in sound. Both have sufficient power for the HD800. The Topping software is crap, but setting up one EQ profile for the HD800 should not be an issue. Personally I like the looks of the Topping more. It is a neat little box.

You needn't hesitate for long, the RME ADI-2 DAC fs is probably sold out very soon.

I can only say what I did at onset of the "DX5 II software drama" - I've bought a second unit, less expensive than the first one 5 years ago. All working, good software, PEQ, loudness, crossfeed, B/T, super useful, customizable remote control. And, as I'm in the EU, no support worries.

DACs that are not broken, or somehow sounded on purpose, shouldn't have any "sound" of their own, so this wasn't a factor at all.
With PEQ you can have any sound you like.

Sidenote: The ADI-2 DAC FS and the ADI-2 are very different "beasts":

I was contemplating cancelling my order for the DX5 II and going with the ADI-2 DAC FS, I see Scan is now selling the DAC FS for around £740

The Topping Tune software is so buggy with DX5II....

It worked better with 1.07 version, I'll try to downgrade

We all know that, but what exactly is happening in your case ??? .. version 1.08 does not start properly. And I am never sure that the Eq I programmed has not been changed by T.Tune... it has happened before.

It suddenly thinks that there is 10 peq profiles saved, when in reality there is only 3 and I cannot add new one.
It was working couple days before when I did factory reset of the whole unit including PEQ profiles, but today it it's broken again....

Now I downgraded to 1.07, and it's working just fine.

I had the same experience and have also downgraded to 1.07 and made sure that TT doesn't autostart or persist in the system tray.

Stopped working today :(
It was running FW v1.67.
Symptoms: black screen, not recognized message by Windows via USB.
DFU mode does not appear after powering on with the knob hold.
Really frustrated, as it's only been two weeks since I bought it.
Is there any way to perform a hard reset?
I had exactly the same issue, but with firmware 1.39 and after only two hours of use. I turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. I sent it to Moscow for repairs, but instead of fixing it, they made excuses like the processor was faulty, saying repairs weren't cost-effective and that I'd be better off buying a new device. Now I've sent it to a repair shop in my city, and the verdict is the same: either the processor or just the firmware itself. We've requested the firmware from the manufacturer twice, and two months have passed, with still no response. Overall, I'm not thrilled with Topping or their technical support, and I've lost any desire to buy their products again.

It is unfortunate that so many new DX5 II have failed in such a short period of time. Perhaps it is a defective batch of devices.

Please clarify the serial numbers of the failed devices. I think this will help identify the defective batch of devices.

I was going to buy a 2nd unit after my 1st defective one, but seems that I won't.
It's really a shame that a device with such potential got so many issues.

Are we talking about 3 cases out of how many sold? Without the numbers, it's impossible to compile statistics or get a complete and accurate picture of the situation.

About the firmware issues, they have all been fixed.

About the serial numbers, there's no serial number on the label on the bottom of the DX5 II. Maybe on the box?

In any case, they all seem to be power supply failures since they no longer turn on. It could be the internal AC-DC shown here in the photo. It's just my guess.
It's manufactured by ATAZ Guangzhou Science & Technology Co., Ltd.

This is the price you pay for having an internal power supply. With an external power supply it would have been easy to replace it or even upgrade to a better one, such as the linear power supplies also produced by Topping (P50).
