Topping DX5 II

I'm unable to get the firmware update to install. Mine is currently running version1.57 (or so I believe as I'm not currently home to confirm). I have followed the steps to update firmware and have tried coppying both V1.69 and V1.72 (not at the same time, obviously) into the created drive, however nothing happens. The "Topping File" just shows in the drive
I had the same problem. I dragged it directly from the downloaded ZIP folder to the drive, which didn't work. What worked for me was first dragging the file from the ZIP folder to the desktop, and then from there onto the USB drive

I'll have to check later, but I have a few things I can try in the meantime.
You are extracting the topping.bin file from the zip, right?

Normally I drop it on the desktop from the zip. Take that file and drag it into the Topping device.

Yes, I'm just copying it from the zip which might explain what I'm doing wrong! I'll do as you suggest when I get home. Thank's for the suggestion!

See my reply to jurgu above, thanks for your suggestion also. I assume that's where I went wrong, oops!

Thanks, jurgu, that worked. Update successful!

Hey, i just got the topping DX5 II, and it's incredible! i really love the sound, quality and overall device. I have one problem though which i also had with my older UAD Apollo interface using my Audeze LCD-5 Planar headphones. There is a deep buzz in my headphones, and i believe its a grounding issue, because when i touch anything metal - like the dac, my macbook etc its grounding everything, and the buzz or hum disappears. What is going wrong in my setup, and how can i fix it? Thanks.
See my answer in your dedicated thread:

Also try to avoid double triple posting in the future. It just makes for unnecessarily convoluted discourse.

Is it just me who has a problem with Topping Tune...? I've coded 10 presets for 10 different headphones, and after a while, the TT changes the settings by itself, cuts off the bass or adds bass... It generally changes the settings on individual presets. I don't know if it's a memory issue in the DX5. don't really know why this is happening ?? Has anyone else noticed similar behavior?

No it’s not just you. The storage of PEQ is quite buggy.

Several of us have made note of it. My solution is to get the data into the device and not run topping tune. I switch the EQ on the device only after successful upload.

I just uploaded a new setting this AM and it both deleted an old setting and refused to upload my new one. Factory reset and upload 8 settings one more time… It’s annoying, but I bought the device knowing this shortcoming.

If I understand correctly... it's best to upload the settings to DX5 and disable the Topping Tune software in the computer ?

Correct. That’s been my experience and workaround.

Note the default behavior of topping tune is to run in the background. You need to go into its settings and turn it off so that closing the application terminates it.

I just did it... :) thanks...

I think we'll have to wait for a DX5 III as I thought because over time and all these different firmwares, it seems to me that the problem is of another order than that of 'SOFTWARE'...

Dear DX5 II owners, do I need one of these if I already own an RME Babyface Pro FS? For example, what would the sound improvement be percentage wise?

Thanks.

It’s more depending on the headphone: If your headphone need more then the 90mw that the RME can deliver then you need to look for a headphone amp.

Far out Over 100 pages about an el cheapo $400 DAC!Does that mean a PS Audio would get 10,000pages?
If PSAudio brought out a device with similar performance and capabilities at a similar price, then it would probably get a similar number of pages to the Topping and i'd be booking a flight on Porcine Airways :)

new UPDATE ...after turning on TOPPING TUNE this message appeared ...

After the update, the NOS mode disappeared without a trace -_-

This is crucial for matching combinations.
