I'm fairly new to the world of DAC's and digital music generally so forgive the newb question!
For the past year I've been using a Raspberry pi with Volumio (HFiberry dac hat) into an Aiyima A07 with Q acoustic 2020i speakers. I've been pretty blown away by the results. I've ordered the Topping dx3 pro+ to replace the DAC hat in my RPi for 2 reasons. I want to add a headphone amp into my setup and because I want to see if I can hear any improvement with a better quality DAC. My question is, should I use the USB out on the Raspberry Pi to connect to the dx3 pro or, is it best to order a digi hat to link the pi to the dx3 with optical or spdif?

Thanks

The DX3Pro+ performs the same via USB and S/PDIF:

Since the Raspberry Pi has USB already, I'd just use that.

Ground loops? Not sure what that means in terms of audio. Inform me!

Pi3 or Pi4? The Pi3 USB bus is only spec'd to handle sampling rates up to 48 kHz.
Pi3 is perfectly capable of >48KHz via USB. I’m still running a Pi3 with Volumio and USB dac in my office.

I remember an FAQ to this effect, but I can't find it now, so I'll withdraw the statement. I have had issues with sample rates over 48 kHz on the Pi 3 with some DACs.

What USB DAC is it, precisely?

I am asking this as I am seeking one for myself, that would work via USB cable with a Rpi3 runnig Volumio 3.

Topping D10, Topping DX1, RME ADI 2 DAC, Minidsp Flex (basically every USB dac I’ve tried has been fine with >48KHz)
