Topping DX3 Pro+ Review (DAC & Headphone Amp)

I'm using mine in Pre amp mode for an external amp with the screen sleep feature enabled, maybe that's the difference?
Mine had both outputs on, I'll try it with pre out only.
I've just been using it both outouts active, though, so I don't know how warm mine got with the old firmware.

I just unplug my headphones or switch off my power amp (remotely), the double press for output switching just annoys me (I'm still too slow half the time and get a single press instead).

That would be a firmware change I'd like, a longer (or configurable) interval after the first press before it's registered as a single press.

UPDATE: With pre-out only, mine stays cool too.

I didn't notice any difference in terms of temps (DAC + AMP Mode). Does anybody know what was changed for sure with the latest 1.28 FW update?

Maybe standby mode power consumption? Could someone measure that?

I know from reviews that the power consumption in standby mode was high when the device came out.

Humm....my only stress is to found it not in Optical mode but on BT mode....but maybe my wife/daughter are the responsible s here...
I also have a big fan over it and the Fosi V3.....so.....they stay always cool.

There are many types of switches that turn the line of to the unit (including remote ones).
I do not see that as a problem.

I do. I rather like that I can wake it from stand-by by connecting bluetooth or switching on the connected CD player.

Ok: all of my equipment powers into the standby mode when I turn on the pair of 1350 watt UPS's (Uninterruptable Power Supplies).
I do not have any remotes to the system (nor do I own a TV/monitor ([ on a separate desktop computer system in another room]).
So our systems are setup vastly differently.
I do use a Bluetooth transponder to send music from the computer to the stereo sometimes.

I just measured mine in standy-by (with bluetooth active), ~2.5 W.
~22 kWh/year isn't entirely insignificant (would be ~5€/year for me), good to know.

Could you measure it in standby with BT off?

If it't only 0,5W, than it's normal like every modern device in standby mode.

Don't have a device to measure it @home.

THX!

I can't, actually. The option to turn BT on/off isn't where it should be in the settings (I remember seeing it when I first set up the DX3Pro+ on an older FW version).

Switching through the options in the settings menu, it jumps from 6. (amp gain) back around to 1. (PCM filters) but 7. (BT setting) never shows up:

To enter the settings menu without a remote control, you need to remove the power cable from the DX3 Pro+, hold down the volume wheel and, without releasing the wheel, connect the power cable. In this case, you will have the option to turn off Bluetooth. This is the only way to disable Bluetooth, it cannot be done from the remote control on any firmware version.

What gave you the impression that I didn't know that?

I obviously knew how to do that, I posted a screenshot from the relevant section of the manual for a reason...

Once in the menu, I was using the +/- buttons on the remote to switch through the options and the BT setting does get skipped for some reason.
When I instead push the volume wheel to switch through the opntions, the BT on/off setting is there.

Because this setting is not available from the remote control, as is clearly stated in the manual:rolleyes:

Wrong. If that was the case, the Output mode setting should be there either but it is.
Options 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 in the settings menu can also be changed with the remote, without entering the settings menu. Options 5 & 7 can only be changed in the menu.
That's what that's referring to but I was talking about using the remote after entering the settings menu.

You can switch through the options in the settings menu either by pushing the volume wheel (and turning it to change the setting) or with the +/- buttons on the remote (and the </> buttons to change the setting.). When I do it with the volume wheel, the BT on/off settings shows up. When I do it with the +/- buttons on the remote, it's not there.

The fact that you can click with the remote control is understandable, but if you entered this menu not through the remote control, then it seems logical to me to navigate through this menu with the wheel, and not with the remote control.

Strange, i had BT on for 2 years (didn't know about the option until now). I could turn it off without problems with the newest firmware.

I guess it will effect my standby power consumption a bit and the unit will stay cooler now. Annoying that i didn't know about this option earlier...

Ok but Topping *did* enable remote control inside the menu, what's the logic of omitting one of the options?
Accidental changes should be prevented by the cumbersome way to enter the menu and the option that's omitted isn't especially critical (that, if anything, would be 5.).

The BT on/off setting is only missing if you switch through the options inside the settings menu using the remote (+/- buttons, </> to change the setting). When using the volume wheel to switch through the options, the BT on/off setting is there.
