Unless you go back to your original (non-working) media player, and check a number of possibilities, it's not clear to me what was wrong. All I was interested in, was trying to prove your new hardware was OK!

Folks are not used to read manuals anymore.
There's link to driver package on page four of Topping DX1 II manual with couple of tutorials for exclusive ASIO and DSD mode linked too, and you'll find all *.fb2k components for Foobar with *.pdf guides in driver package.

Good form Windows users, but not for Mac users sadly.

I'm not even going to bother returning it.
It'll go back in the box and not see the light of day again until it's confirmed the many issues have been resolved.

Like you, I'll not buy a Topping product again that's for sure.

Things is I had a few headphones amplifiers from the brand a zero issues, but two dacs and both having problems

Not sure about relevance, apparently, Apple changed the sound setup with MacOS 26 I believe, moving more code towards the kernel, have seen report about various external dac/amps struggling with that.

Bottomline is unfortunately this all sounds like USB driver issues. Considering that you are likely just using the standard USB driver, the easiest thing to just try the UAC switch to see if it makes a difference. For a true fix, you will need to either bypass the standard USB driver (use ASIO as others have suggested or find another USB driver with customizable buffers) or wait for a firmware update from Topping. Likely not a hardware defect but still annoying for sure.

Hi. Well, whatever the issue is, I have decided to put it back in its box and likely sell it. I found that I could not get any sound from it when logging in to Steam. This was the last straw to be honest which is why I didn't bother posting about it on here as I couldn't be bothered anymore.
I checked online (including ChatGPT, youtube and other websites) and followed all instructions to get it to work but after 2 hours of frustration, I boxed it up and put it away.

I'm back to a simple USB C dongle for my IEM's and the Pebble V3's are back to being connected directly to a USB C port on the PC.
It all works well with only minor selections needed per use.

Far too much faffing around just to get sound out of the PC with the Topping.

Didn't realize you were trying to plug in the Pebble v3s too. Assuming that they have their own built in DAC, it's not great to double up on DACs (one in the DX1 and one in the Pebble). Unfortunately, if you commit to speakers or headphones with their own DACs it is usually just good practice to use their built in ones.

Yeah, I wanted an all-in-one solution so I could just switch between the speakers and headphones easily without having to go into Windows menus (which to be fair, isn't much of an issue really). I think I overcomplicated something that already worked just fine. The headphones are now plugged into a cheap UGREEN CM720 USB DAC which are just fine for my use.

You live and learn don't you.

The USB power issue mentioned may well be the main cause - power saving in a portable device being such that it is doing micro power-downs on USB ports that result in dropouts.

A shame the title of the thread is set in stone, when the real issue may well be down to the users level of experience with windows and what type of users windows is normally set up to serve first and foremost .

Yeah, it's a known issue apparently. I tried everything to make it work I really did but, in the end, I couldn't be bothered wasting my time with it.
I'll just stick to what I know (which is not a lot)

Different causes can have the same dropout effect in computer audio .. it doesn't have to be the same cause for both.

And a windows setup issue can also be the same setup issue on a Mac .

I was about the pull the trigger yesterday at $119 USD, which is £89 GBP but as soon as I enter my UK address it fixes the price to £119. I contacted Topping to tell them I want to pay in USD, but even though it's shipping from China they said I have to pay in my home currency. I can't stand these geo-price-gouging strategies, paying £30 extra for no reason at all, so had to abandon the purchase. AliExpress is going the same way with fixed geo-pricing, so maybe it's a government led directive / strategy.
