SMSL 200 PRO sounds a little better than the Topping, the SMSL has a better spatial scene and more accurate localization of musical instruments.

Did you do AB comparsion with matched level?

You will probably need a 4.4mm balanced cable. The balanced output has more power than the 3.5mm output.

the official power output on the pictures shows 800mw@16ohm vs 730mw at the balanced port. Since the Edition XS has 18Ohm, doesn't that mean that the output is stronger on the 3.5mm or am I confusing something? I am new to audio.

I would assume that the balanced output gets stronger at 18 ohm since it goes up and the 3.5mm goes down?

Anyone have a problem with it not detecting the USB input when turning on your PC? I have to unplug and replug for it to detect the USB signal. Any one knows how to fix that issue? It's a hassle to have to physically unplug and replug the USB every time I turn on my computer.

No, but if it's powered by the computer you can try changing ERP in the system bios, making sure the DAC is completely powered off when the PC is not on.

Maybe others can comment but I have no idea what's going on at 16 ohm. The other specs show the balanced output having double the power though.

a digital multimeter gets more accurate than an SPL meter

Disconnect speakers, play a steady 300Hz sine wave test tone through your source.

set MM to AC volts, put across the positive and negative output terminals of device A

turn up the volume to a comfortable listening level (e.g. 2.0Vac). Switch to device B and adjust until the multimeter reads exactly the same voltage

Look at this ->

It appears that with low impedance, there is a power limitation inherent to the audio circuit's design, intended to protect the unit.

It is also likely related to the USB port's ability to supply sufficient current (amps), in accordance with the specifications outlined in the TOPPING user manual.

Furthermore, a difference of just 2 ohms (in your headphones' impedance)—even if the value is higher—results in little to no increase in output power.

In any case, listening at these levels approaches the point where it could be dangerous for your long-term hearing health
